View Full Version : Idiot in charge of Outlook - help!

I'm embarrased to have to ask, but here goes anyway. I've received the various email details and tried them all in Outlook without success.
(does the account first have to be set up in Cpanel? I thought it was already done)
Can anybody point me in the right direction? Just to confuse the issue, I use an old POP account to recieve, only wanting to use Entanet/ADSL24 SMTP to send. And before anyone jumps on that, it's a system I've been using for the last three years, right up till this morning when I changed login details to switch connections to ADSL24.
Whichever combination of the various pop/username details I've entered so far have all given me errors so any help would be appreciated, thanks. Tony.

Have you remembered to tick "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"?
Could you please provide some more details of the errors you're getting?

Just sorted it!
There's ANOTHER password......doh! <sigh>
Thanks for the response, I'm going to go lie down in a darkened corner now till the blush subsides.
Don't worry Greyrider, I must admit that I found setting up the email side of adsl24/entanet was the most difficult one to date. It's not very clear on which password goes where. Doing the actual connection bit was obvious, just entering the relevant bits into your modem configuartion screen - easy!
But the rest took some working out, and I'm pretty au fait with setting up accounts etc. I emailed Brian for help at one stage which is unheard of for me! I think it would be a good idea if there was an easy to follow guide on this somewhere.
But it's a good and friendly service here on adsl24 at least!
Setting up email is easy as sheading pea's. Once you have done it once its plain sailing from there.
If you look on our website, click support and scroll to the botttom, we have loads and loads of video tutorials available.

Glad you got it sorted greyrider.
Apologies Brian I think I led you down the wrong path!
Setting up an email account is easy.
The confusion comes because there are different usernames and passwords supplied in the initial email when you first sign up. It's not clear which one goes where.
To use adsl24/entanet I have a total of at least 4 different passwords.
One to connect to adsl24 via broadband
One to use ftp
One to log into Entanet billing
Then each email account requires another password.
The problem lies in making it clear which one of the two initially supplied passwords goes where. There are also two usernames to put in the correct place. Actually there are three usernames if you count the interchangeable ones for the actual log in to connect to broadband.
The video tutorials don't point out which password/username goes where.
Filling in forms is easy, if you know what bit to put in where.
For example if I use the button on the ADSL24 front page to get to the customer control panel I use the username and password that I use to actually connect to broadband. This gets me to the page where I can see my account details etc. I can access the useage subpage, but if I go to the email and website subpage and click on this bit: 'To open your email control panel in a new window click here' I get a form to fill in. No matter what combination of usernames and passwords I enter I get no further. The form just comes back blank and asks for the same details. The only way I can get to customer control panel is via the link provided in the original email. I cannot get to the panel via any other means.
The instructions are either not clear enough or they are at odds with what appears on screen.
Because of my background in computers etc, I think I have a bit more experience and am willing to experiment a bit more, but I think the average user might come up against some of same problems as me and not be able to sort them on their own. I emailed you in the end because I could not get a solution to the problem above. Your reply, and I mean this in nicest way (really!) didn't help me. As it is, I simply use the other way of getting to the email setting up facility via the account control panel.
I've set up my various 'co.uk' web domains to point to my webspace on adsl24 and that all works fine. As does the email forwarding I have. So it's not lack of ability or knowledge at this end to do things I think!
The matter is complicated by the various different usernames and passwords required. My last two ISPs have only required one username and one password to connect, access email, use ftp and view account details.
Anyway, enough waffle, I'm just pointing out what I think is a lack of clarity.
And it's all meant to help in the long run anyway!
:-)
Hi,
Im aware of the email being a bit confusing and a few customers have stated just that. Im looking into trying to clear it all up so the EU can read and make things clear.
The main problem is as you stated, Entanet provides there own user panel, webmail, hosting, FTP and email and we also provide the same. The only thing we can do is NOT provide our hosting, email etc and make it a request service and this would clear the email up to one easy to follow group of emails.
We used to send out 2 emails, one for the actual login and the other for emails and hosting but that was time consuming inputing all the details by hand so we incorperated all the emails into one email, hence what we send out now.
If you or anyone can provide a better solution great let me have a look and we can see what goes of it.
Regards,

If you go to the following link click on Webmail link on the ADSL24 site. You should then get webmail login screen. Before you LOGIN, save link to your Bookmarks folder or toolbar which ever is easier to access. Then its a click and enter email address and password.

It wasn't that difficult, more that I hadn't had my coffee and started "fiddling" at 07.00 in the morning - not a Good Idea. The password I needed was right in front of me all the time but I kept skipping past it. Migrations can take up to 10 ten days, mine was spot on. Help? No problem, ask in here or the dedicated forum at the ADSL24 site <whisper> they seem like a nice enough crowd </whisper> :)
Hi p770
You would have the same problem which ever ISP you choose. Don't forget most people tend to set and forget so when it comes to dusting the cobwebs off the brian cells and the panic subsides. there's always Brian(ADSL24) on the other end.
This is a company with a personal approach which prides itself on making sure you are happy with the service provided.
When you sign up to ADSL24 with your MAC code , you should have your login and setup details straight away (mine was less than 24 hours).Brian James should comfirm to you your connection date when you decide to contact him with your MAC code.
When i received my details i setup my Direct debit account with Enternet, they handle the Billing side of things.
Before I went live i setup an Enternet email account so i could shift my contacts email addresses, just in case Nildram terminated my email account(2 months later email account still active)
Setting up the Email with ADSL24 is not that hard. I set mine up using IMAP, its just easier for me to access(its similar to POP). The email has now had the addition of virus and spam controls.
Connection: Well when the date is confirmed its just a case of changing your login address and password, setting your static IP(you can leave it to obtain dynamically, it doesn't really matter) and setting your DNS address. Thats it.
You will experience a 10 day training with the ADSL max accounts, You may find your speeds drop (mine was up and down for 2 days). Then you will see what you've been missing:eek:
My setup are two PC's(Gaming on W.O.W ''the boys") a wireless Macbookpro, and a Wii all throttling the life out of a DG834gt router at the same time.
So don't worry take the plunge, you won't regreat it http://langkawi.dk/smileys/z081.gif
As you say Greyrider, the info is there in front of you, just that it's not that clear on what goes where!
No problem with the email p770. Brian sets up an email account for you to start with.
My email problem is only about actually accessing the email setup section from one direction.
There's no problem if you do it via the customer control panel for which you get full details in your initial sign up email.
Don't let this minor problem put you off. The speed, reliability and good service you get from adsl24 more than makes up for a minor problem that is easily solved!
If you go to the following link click on Webmail link on the ADSL24 site. You should then get webmail login screen. Before you LOGIN, save link to your Bookmarks folder or toolbar which ever is easier to access. Then its a click and enter email address and password.

That's another way of doing it.
I just saved the url to the cPanel log-in page, and that gets me straight in as well.

Hi p770,
The email setup is not really that difficult, and we'll be more than happy to assist when the time comes.
Call me thick (DONT even think about it :D ) but with pipex I have 5 email addresses all ending with @dsl.pipex.com
I access the mail for these via Outlook i.e. I open outlook and they download onto my computer. Will ADSL24 emails work the same or are they like my online email I have with fsmail (old freeserve/wanadoo/orange) in that I have to go onto the internet first and then access the mail via their server?

You can read your Adsl24 email using an email client like Outlook (both POP3 and IMAP are supported), or using Webmail (either Horde or SquirrelMail can be used).
Hi p770
I did get confused when setting up email in outlook but the video instructions are good. Brian and people on this forum will help you if you get stuck.
There is an automatic configuration link for outlook you can try. It didnt work for me (which led to my first post on th forum) but give it a try.
When I changed over there was no break, everything went fine. A date was given by Brian for my migration. On the day I migrated to ADSL24 when I came home from work I changed my router settings to the new details and that was that. Working fine.
hello
I have just left pipex and moved to adsl24 on the 18 th jan, pipex let me have my mac code no problem .
you can still access pipex web site for a while until you set your email a/c with adsl24, I managed to log on to my router with adsl24 setup sheet but try as i may i was unable to set up my e/mail a/c with adsl24
but if you phone the help 0800 adsl24 help line he will sort you out
in fact the email is the same as pipex (adsl24 are head and shoulders above what you have been getting)
regards billt
verry new adsl24 member and liking it
p770 you'll be ok with the email we are here to help. Outlook express is easy compared to my client pocomail I had to enable TLS/STARTTLS :D
you will not be left to fend for yourself fear not.
Call me thick (DONT even think about it :D ) but with pipex I have 5 email addresses all ending with @dsl.pipex.com.......
I have just started my migration to adsl24 and used to be with f2s.com. They have emails addresses like
something@f2s.com. Easy peasy.
I have successfully setup my first ADSL24 email address but it is so long and complicated and no one will remember it.
It is of the format:
something@somethingelse.entadsl.com
How do I get just something@entadsl.com
or
something@adsl24.co.uk
Anyone know?
I have only been able to use the ADSL24 website control panel so far to do the above.
The email I received after I signed up said that I have an email address already which is:
something@somethingelse.adsl24.co.uk but I can't seem to find it anywhere in order to change or edit it.
Do ADSL24 emails end in adsl24.co.uk or entadsl.com
Confused
Jason
Read the email we send out more closely, it explains it all.
Read the part that says: Your Free Adsl24 Free Hosting And Email Details
Regards,
PS,
We dont provide [at]adsl24.co.uk email addresses only name[at]accountname.adsl24.co.uk.

Yeah I've already read it VERY carefully and it says that I have an email address setup which is name@accountname.adsl24.co.uk.
Why when I go to control panel is this email address not there?
If I try to set up another it has @accountname.entadsl.com
NOT @accountname.ADSL24.CO.UK !
How do I edit the name@accountname.adsl24.co.uk email address?
No where in your pre-signup information does it mention that you do not provide @adsl24.co.uk email addresses. Very un-userfriendly. Perhaps you might warn others for the future.
The email I was sent which I have read VERY carefully says that the incoming AND outgoing mail server address is:
mail.accountname.adsl24.co.uk
However when I log into control panel from your website it says the
Incoming mail server: pop.entadsl.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.entadsl.com
Can you confirm which it is please as I will be setting up my email program soon.
You seem to be mixing up adsl24 and entadsl for some reason and this is why people are getting confused.
I assume that the control panel on your website is the same as in your email.

The Control Panel you're referring to is Entanet's, so the details given there are those if you want to use Entanet's email facilities. I'd recommend using Adsl24's email facilities instead, as there is spam and virus filtering included with this, and you also have a choice of Horde or SquirrelMail for Webmail access -the incoming and outgoing server for this is mail.username.adsl24.co.uk (don't forget to enable SMTP authentication for outgoing email).

Hi purge98....Welcome to ADSL24:D
You should have received an email which gave you the username and password for your ROUTER.These details will also allow you to see your Billing,Usage details and to setup your Enternet email accounts by the
CONTROL PANEL (http://adsl24.co.uk/index.html) on the ADSL24 site.
You should also have received details for your
DOMAIN Account...username.adsl24.co.uk
Username=_ _ _ _
Password=_ _ _ _
This will give you access to CPanel to configure your Email accounts
http://username.adsl24.co.uk:2083/

Ps keep asking away till your happy...Its a b**** to remember when you hav'ent done it in ages
Thanks for your very helpful replies Cliff & tboorman.
The fact that you need your router to be configured for ADSL24 broadband in order for the ADSL24's homepage Control Panel button to take you to ADSL24's email setup page was never in the email I got. It seems even the MD doesn't know this!
I did actually think that the Control Panel button on ADSL24's homepage would take me to ADSL24's control Panel NOT Entanet's. Stupid me.....:(
You need to be active on Entanets systems before the control panel works on our websites front page.
And I KNOW WHATS WHAT M8 ok.
The email we send out is as simple as it can be, perhapse we should just send out the login details and stop providing emails, hosting and all the other fancy stuff just to make it as simple as it can be and leave it to customers to ask "Where is this, Where is that" and then it causes all sorts of problems.
