Hi

I'm having random slowdowns and disconnects. When i have problems sometimes the router will say I am still connected, other times the line connection drops. When the line remains connected, the router is unable to ping or resolve IP addresses (from the diagnostics page).

I am connected straight in the master BT socket with a new filter with a new Netgear DG834PN router. I normally connect at over 7000kbps with downstream line attenuation of 47db and noise margin of 6db+-1. I am 1.8km from my exchange as the crow flies.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like the router is still holing SYNC even when there are two many error or too low a noise margin when it should really be re-syncing to get a new speed and higher SNR (as most routers need to at night when more noise comes in)

Does it happen at any partular time? What does it say in the Connection status page on the Router status page?

To be honest 7000 on a 47dB line is a ridiculously high SYNC speed - the router might be trying to take more than it can reliably handle. (More speed = Less SNR = More errors)

Stats page attached (currently working fine) - normally have problems when the noise margin drops to 6.2 or less. Maximum I've seen is 7.1. Connection speed usually greater than 7000 and I have seen nearly 8000 a few times.

Notice problems more in the evenings because of work but I have had problems mid-morning during weekdays and late afternoon.

Can anything be done your end (interleaving?) or mine?

Yep - Interleaving might help with this. Although, it may already be turned on. Want to give it a go?

Why not? I don't play games on line so latency shouldn't be a problem. Is it easy to turn on and off?

Yes, takes around 24hrs. I'll put the request in.

Thanks James. We'll say how it goes.:)

Hi James

So far, so good - touch wood! Am connected at 8096kbps with downstream line attenuation of 47db and noise margin of 4.4 (dropped to 4.0 at midnight last night). No problems since interleaving was turned on.

Seem to be getting quicker download speeds as well.

Cheers:D

PS like the EntaTool

Hi mate, I don't think you have interleaved paths yet, The max speed you can get with interleave is 7616kbps from what I've seen.

Veggie - 8096 is a typical interleaved sync rate.

Most routers are limited to 7616 Interleaved, but if you have 8096, then it is on Interleaved (it's just that that particular router can go above 7616) as Paul says :)

Thanks for the info folks.

Now at 7648kbps and noise margin of 6.3. Haven't disconnected but its changed anyway - didn't know it could do that

Rather than start another thread, can I add to this one?

I've just set up my broadband within the last couple of hours, and apparantly am getting disconnects. I have two monitor icons in my toolbar with a globe when connected. I just noticed that I was disconnected then reconnected automatically.

Is this part of the ten day testing period?

Cheers.

Yes. The line will occasionally drop and settle down at a speed that is reliable.

Be sure to make sure everything is set up correctly - http://adsl24.co.uk/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=8&id=48&artlang=en

Thanks James. :)

Another question.:o

Am I able to completely shut down my computer over the training period for my connection. Is just leaving the router plugged in/switched on enough?

Thanks again.:)

Yes, as long as the router is on its fine to have the PC off
