Dunno if this is the right area, but I'm sure one of the mods will move it if necessary :)

There's a lot of discussion on the Mozilla forums about problems with the update from Firefox 2.0.0.5 to 2.0.0.6. For the first time since I've been running Firefox, I also experienced problems yesterday, with the update failing due to 'one or more files being locked' - or some similar message. :(

Anyway, FWIW, I finally downloaded the new version directly from the Firefox site i.e. as a separate standalone file. Then I exited Firefox, rebooted the pc, and immediately ran the installation file.

Firefox is now updated, the program confirms no further updates are available, but the update history still claims the update is awaiting installation. This latter is presumably because it's referring to the auto-update, rather than the separate install I did over the top of the old one, but it's still a bit of a pain to see it there.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else is having the same issue; and maybe my solution may be of help to others.

No problems here, mind you only 1 windoze installation has been ran since the update. Ubuntu just updated it in it normal manner, Iceweasel has not been updated in Debian Sid yet but I expect no problems.

No problem here, it updated just the same as usual in my XP machines - still waiting for Linux updates.

Updated just fine for me yesterday.

For info, the evidence now points to the culprit being SpyBot TeaTimer locking FireFox and blocking the updater and installer software. As confirmation, I'd be interested to know if you three (Thraxas, Krokr, David) run TeaTimer on the machines you updated with no problem. Please :)

I had exactly the same problem... and it was Spybot Teatimer.... it also caused problems with the latest Windows Update.

Yes I use Firefox most of the time but have Opera installed as well, as a backup browser and for testing websites. If I ever give up of FF then Opera it will be!
