Fellas I have a problem,
I have downloaded a video clip off you tube using vixy.net and it has been converted and saved on my desktop.
When I double click the icon it plays great through Power DVD.
Anyway I cut and pasted the file in another directory and now it will not open!
I have had this problem before with excel spreadsheets and word documents and avi/mpreg video clips.
Have I got some kind of virus?
If my memory serves me correctly last time it was a file association problem.
Can anyoen shed any light on this for me and advise m of a fix?
Many thanks!
Have you tried looking at the properties of the icon(right-click,properties) to make sure that the paths(Target and start in) are still valid?

Yes everything seems to be in order.
There is no summary available though, is that anything to do with the problem?
Not being acquainted with the service you mentioned, I was wondering if the conversion/save process had saved the file elsewhere and put a shortcut on the desktop. Obviously this isn't the case.
If you look on the security tab and check the advanced button and see where it's inheriting it's permissions from(and which ones) against the permissions of the directory you've put it in.

There is no security tab :( just general and summary.
This is very odd indeed.
Have you tried copying the file back to the desktop and seeing if it still runs from there?

It wont let me move the file says access is denied!
Strange ....It might be quicker to download the file again, this time to the directory you want.

Yes but it happens to other files I have on my pc, there is definitely an issue with file association conflicts.
I'm probably having a 'senior moment' but I can't see how a file association issue should have the effect you describe.
Obvious thoughts are have you got an uptodate virus scanner and have you given your harddisk a recent checkup with chkdsk ?

Sorted fellas.
I went to windows explorer go under tools - folder options - clicked on the view tab scrolled all the way to the bottom in advanced settings and unchecked the use simple file sharing checkbox...and then your security tab showed up.
I then right clicked on the files icon and changed the security settings :)
Thanks for your help anyway.
Glad to see you've resolved your problem.
