Need to find the Mozilla Bookmarks in my old OS, know where to get IE7 from via Documents & settings, but Mozilla was the main browser and there does not appear to be a "Favourites" folder like IE. All folders set to "show hidden files and folders".

following on from pc probs here

Cheers

In XP you can find the Firefox bookmarks.html in c:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\yourprofile
This assumes that c: is your boot/windows drive and username is the userid you use to login, and yourprofile will be some random 8character.default directory.

Hope this helps

Copy bookmarks.html somewhere safe, instal Firefox then copy the saved file back to the equivalent directory in the new installation.

If you can still fire up Outlook then you can go to File-Import/Export-Export to file etc.

Aren't outlook messages saved in dbx form?

I think if you grab these and copy them over to the equivalent folder, stuff gets restored. I did this ages ago...I'm going to have to refresh my memory on this..:)

Later on that same day.....:)

I had a look and in XP Pro they are stored in the following folder

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{big-long-number-inserted-here}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

I just grabbed them all and stuck them into the same folder on the new machine and all was saved.

Hope this helps...if not, then I apologise for waffling:)

If you can still access the folder that Tinyclanger refers to then you can either overwrite your existing profile with the files from your old profile but note that this will delete any messages sent/received through the new profile or you can import them using File | Import | Messages and following the wizard.

Thank you all for your help.

Pulled them all back, you spend ages going thru all the folders, then decide its easier to ask on forum, as Steve Jobs would say..'oh, and more thing",

on the keyboard the upper case no.2 has now become the at- @ - key and the double quotes now where the -@- was, any fixes.. Chicony wireless keyboard, drivers installed all set to United Kingdom English

Yup..Mozbackup is great. I use it too:D:D

The keyboard thing...did you try checking under Regional and Language options in the control panel, and make sure its set to English United kingdom.

I think the setting you have there is the US layout. But the changes need to be made at regional, not under the actual keyboard option.

Hope this is right..

Yep correct thanks very much did'nt think to look there, getting groggy from setting up for three users. Going out to get a large External drive and then "Image " the OS with Paragon.

oh....and one more thing (the last one) again I may be missing the obvious.

After about 10 minutes of inactivity, the screen goes to the XP bouncing screensaver, then moving the mouse the log on Welcolm screen appears and just click the looged user Power Settings set to "Always On" everything else to "Never" Hibernate off, just gone thru all again but no difference.?????

Thanks again, see never thought to look there. Never installed XP from scratch off of the OS disc, always used the 'Restore factory settings' disc, where its all done for you, least this way Iv'e learned a lot.
