View Full Version : Post your Desktop!
Hey there!
It's simple. Screenshot your desktop, upload it to some place like ImageShack.us which provides thumbnails (avoids forum width stretching) and post it.
I find it interesting, and find that alotta people have some cool wallpapers too, mines pretty bland at the moment - need a new one... Also tend to find someone left there porn folder on the desktop for a screenshot too sometimes, haha. ;)

Icon overload there so as my hubby and the kids can find stuff. They are the sort that leave everything sitting out on kitchen worktops so as they find it again.
Not long cleaned my desktop up :D. This was my way of getting my mum off my pc. Getting her to use remote desktop :p. PF usage is high :(.

Help Please! I'd like to add my current desktop but I'm wary of signing up to the "upload your photos" sites. I may be paranoid but it sounds to me like a way of harvesting email addresses for spam attacks. Is there any way to avoid this?

ImageShack.us (http://www.imageshack.us/) ;)
Or, you could just sign up to Hotmail UK (https://signup.live.com/hmnewuser.aspx?mkt=en-gb&revipc=GB&ts=4008105&sh=V5S7&hm=1&ru=http%3a%2f%2fmail.live.com%2f%3fnewuser%3dyes&rx=http%3a%2f%2fget.live.com%2fmail%2foverview&rollrs=04&lic=1) or Google Mail (http://mail.google.com/mail/signup) for a free mail account and just let that be your 'spam/crap' e-mail. :)

Glad you like it. Isola Santa, Garfagnana (That's in Tuscany). I've several photos of the area (not mine, I should add), showing it in different seasons.

The Turrite Secca valley where the Isola Santa (Holy Island) is situated, a tiny, slate-roofed village on its own lake, once a hideout for mediaeval renegades, now completely abandoned

That's it. I don't know Tuscany well - only been there a brief couple of times. This part of it is so different from what most of us think of as Tuscany. I know many people are very inventive with their desktops but I have no talent for that . I like really good photos but they have to easy to look at (ie not distracting) and not be so filled-up that I can't see the icons when I want to have them displayed.
Just a normal KDE desktop on my laptop.

But when you have five users for a machine you have to have everyone's favourite ready to go.
There's only two of us in the family that can class ourselves as advanced PC users. the others, all children, probably quite rightly, just want to get on with whatever they want to do.
I find the Quick Launch invaluable actually. I hate navigating menus, and trying to remember hotkey combos.

Perfect reason , I at the moment use a 15.4 inch laptop and need the start bar to be as small as possible :)

Ah well, with a 17" monitor I can afford to be a bit more generous with the icons!
I can't go to a 19" monitor because it would be too big (just) for my PC cabinet/desk thingy. And with my eyes the existing resolution of 1280 x 1024 is just right on this size monitor.

Well my desktop's spread W I D E over a 22" Widescreen and a 19" Standard screen monitor. Trust me, when you've tried out a two monitor setup with all it's benefits you won't want to back to a single screen ever again! :D

Nice :) What distro are you running thraxas? I prefer to set the app windows so they're hovering slightly away from the cube - looks cooler and you can see all the windows then :D
Kubuntu on the laptop, I usually have it with the 3d window effects as well, but I switched from beryl to compiz using the tuxfamily repos and a recent update broke it (or most likely I broke it).
At least AIGLX and compositing will be supported on the next fglrx drivers (so they say) and I can get rid of the XGL cludge.
