Sounds similar to what I'm experiencing. (http://www.adsl24.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2533)

I'm getting the same as you, and have you noticed they seem to occur arround the same time each night, usually between 8:50 and 9:20 and not everyday but quite often in the morning between 6:30 and 6:50, and the strange thing is before hand the speeds are fantastic then it is almost as if it becomes stuck, and either reboot pc or router or even both to get it to clear

Ive known P2P programs to cause a router to freeze if too many global connections are allowed (shound be limited to below 800) but not to actually cause the adsl to dissconnect. I am having a very similar problem except mine can be ever hour to ever day its just random :p. I would suggest not to use an extention cable or a splitter, connect though the main socket. Also check your adsl cable is ok as I had a similar problem and found my younger sisters rabbit had been running around the living room and taken a fancy to its taste lol :). If you find a solution to this problem please let me know as im wanting to try more options to sorting my dissconnections.

If the ethernet light is going out this indicates a fault with the router/ethernet cable/network card in the PC or as Matthew says it's not coping well with all the P2P connections if you use that.
