View Full Version : Entanet Capcity
With everyone migrating in and loading their bit torrent clients to the hills and then preparing to hit go at 10pm i can see by the central reports things are getting busy again.
With more and more people coming in I wonder if enta are looking at more bandwidth to come in, last night it was bad at times with pings suffering, im not moaning, i just think that with the image enta now have the download community are moving in and as steve sometimes says on the enta noc "downloading half the internet"
Admittedly when i was first enabled it was like wow, and used it all the time, but now the new toy image has gone our family usage has gone right down.
Maybe when migrations calm down things have get better.
On that note, in any one on here on one of the larger packages, or unlimited packages out of interest

The problems at the moment are still primarily due to the failure of centrals 3 and 5 on Sunday. Everyone got chucked off and onto 1, 2 and 4, and there are still more people connected to those centrals than there should be - this is why centrals 1, 2 and 4 are often showing slower speeds and packet loss, when 3 and 5 are relatively unloaded.
Unfortunately, it's not easy to rebalance things without going to extremes (such as kicking everyone off, which obviously wouldn't go down well!) The other problem is that BT's load balancing is poor at best - I've reconnected a number of times, and have completely failed to get on anything other than central 2 and 4!
In terms of overall capacity, there is obviously variations, as the smallest amount of additional capacity that can be cost-effectively activated is 155mbits. These segments are usually enabled when the current capacity is nearly out, and then of course that means that there is significant excess capacity until more people sign up.
There is little evidence that Entanet are slowing down on adding additional capacity yet - from memory, the first segment of central 6 is due to be activated sometime in the middle of next month, about 6 weeks since they activated the last segment on central 5. As I say, the poor performance this week is pretty much entirely backlash from the failure on Sunday, and adding additional capacity would not fix it - we just need to wait for the system to balance itself again as connections resync.

i resynced a number of times due to other issues and always end up on 1 or 2 never on 3 or 5

I know, it's very frustrating - if anything the load balancing seems to be working backwards. Statistically, given the number of times I've resynced, it's very unlikely for me not to have ever ended up on 3 or 5, even with totally random selection.
It may help to stay disconnected for a minute or so before reconnecting - worked for me last evening.
Never had any problems as such apart from taking three weeks to get a new IP profile (BTs fault). I am sure enta net will upgrade as they need too - the only problem I have is my connection seems to drop every 24 hours. In a strange way: I will still be able to view the site I am on at the time but nothing outside of it. Restart the router and I am fine again. I put it down to the heap of plastic crap Dlink have the audacity to call a router (looks like a VHS cassette with wires hanging out of it) and not enta net.
