I ordered an AMD 64 4000+ (E6) from Ebuyer and it arrived quickly enough.
Took it out of its little box and guess what.
It was second hand.
Damaged pins, some dried out thermal paste, and when I cleaned off the residue to get the serial no for a return I found the classical scratch marks of a botched heat sink fitting and/or removal.

I was tempted to contact Trading Standards, but then I would have been told to follow up with EBuyer.

I phoned them up due to the nature of the problem, but was advised to use the online RMA request. No help at all.
I am sending the part back.
I may try to find a good complaints route to higher up the ladder.
They have been in trouble with Trading Standards before.

Ebuyer are one of the few companies that are well and truely stuck on my 'do not deal with them' list. They messed me about something rotten a few years ago when I bought a monitor that was faulty from them. The online ticket system was dreadful, couldn't get through to them on the phone, endlessy enaged.

Watch out that they don't try to get away with not refunding the return postage. (not the only company to try this on for faulty item, anyone who does never gets my buisness again)

Just to balance it up, I've been using Ebuyer for years and not had a single problem with them. Had a duff PSU once and that was sorted out with no trouble. I know people have different experience with them but thats my dealings and I will always use them as my number one supplier.

Oh - nasty experience.

Ebuyer are also on my "bad list". I've never had any problems with stuff I've bought from them, but their choice of delivery agent stops me from wanting to buy from them, given that it was with an ebuyer package, through citylink, that I had to spend weeks waiting for citylink to actually turn up, rather than pretending that they had left a card (none actually materialising, of course).

That said, citylink did recently leave a package on the doorstep without signature, so a change may be afoot :) However, given the topic of this thread, I'll certainly think before using ebuyer...

i used ebuyer recently to order all the components for my new comp, everything arrived on time and in good order except for the western digital HDD which was faulty (one of those dodgy faults where sometimes the motherboard sees the drive others it wont)

I raised a return ticket and they came and collected the part from my work (via citylink) and refunded my money within three days. I didn't get my replacement hdd from them as the samsung one i wanted was £15 cheaper using scan.co.uk

all in all i found ebuyer to be as good as many other online retailers.

I think most online retailers are the same with their terrible RMA process, I for one thing Overclockers has the worst RMA/Testing process for GFX cards. I purchased one for the first sets of Nvidia 6800gt Galaxy glacier graphics cards from them & within a week it started do develop corruption in games so I sent it back via an RMA. They tested teh card & sent it back to me charging me £20 & stating it was fine um... I rang and enquired how do you test them & they stated in 3dmark as it uses every part of the card.....

Oh well it continued to present as not very well so I contacted one of the managers & they got it replaced for me, mind teh last issue I had with them was over a full pc arriving damaged & missing an FDD drive (cable hanging outta the front, outer box intact). This was the best as I went to a solicitor with it & took pictures & they were happy to take it back & give me a new one :D

I still buy from ocuk if no one else has teh kit I want but I shop around now

Thanks to Yorkie I have had 2 telephone calls from Ebuyer.
These from the Op's Director and the Tech' Director.
They are shipping a new one without even having the old one yet (Royal Mail)

So, I think they are concerned.

Let's see........

I've had good and not so good experiences with most of the well-known online shops. I think its a case of knowing the possible pitfalls and knowing your rights.

I've always had the best results when I've been as polite as I can be - even if I felt like wringing their necks. If the person on the phone has a bad attitude, I try again another time - there may be someone else on and they may be more co-operative.

At the end of the day, if you start shouting or threatening they are unlikely to put you at the top of their 'to do' list.

ebuyer used to have a dealer forum on the Custom PC website, along with Scan, Misco and Abit (you get free delivery if you are a registered CPC/PCPro forum member) but they have now vanished - wonder why??

I ordered a Radeon graphics card from them once - they had 18 showing as in stock. They took my money - sent order progress e-mails, then said they'd shipped it. The day after it was supposed to be delivered, they sent me an e-mail saying it wasn't in stock and they were refunding my money.

New CPU arrived this morning, overnight :)
Can't complain about that delivery.

It's good and there is a definite improvement over the older 3500+ (Venice core)
New one uses the San Diego core with 1 MB L2

Much better opinion of EBuyer now.

Many thanks guys

I bought one of those a while ago - they are very good for the price they are now.

It's in my 2nd PC now. - It has never had problems running anything - its just the one I have now (C2D E6850) does everything quicker, at less power comsumption and less heat :)

Good choice!

Glad that everything has been sorted David, Armando is a top bloke if he says he is going to do something he does it,

I installed the San Diego processor in one of my Grandaughter's computers and it is a very good processor.

Ebuyer is a fantastic retailer, I did have a poor experience but this was speedily resolved above and beyond my own expectations, and I was able to contact their Director Armando Sanchez directly,

I would recommend Ebuyer to all my friends, and Armando would like to know if anyone else has had any problems and welcomes them to call him directly on

I am now in an odd situation.
Armando (EBuyer) took my word for the problem and sent the new CPU overnight.
I had sent the old one (recorded delivery) last Saturday 9.00am, first class.
It does not yet show up on the Royal Mail tracker as having been delivered.

Hi Frank
I wonder how the old place is;)

I know I can't track it until it is delivered and then I don't need to.
It' just that I feel uncomfortable having had a good/trusting response from EBuyer and then they don't get the part back - yet!

I can see myself having to claim back on Royal Mail to recompence EBuyer:(

Ah well, s*** happens.

I wouldn't worry too much about eBuyer as you've got the proof of Recorded Delivery postage, anyway. Judging from my own past experiences with eBuyer, they probably couldn't care less whether they get the CPU back or not - and it was their fault in the first place so I certainly wouldn't go beating myself up about it if I were you! ;)

My return to EBuyer was posted on the 25Aug and still has not got there.
I phoned Royal Mail and eventually, after talking to a voice recocnition thing, spoke to a real person and was told that the time allowed for was 15 working days.
I wonder how many people know that.

Something similar has just happened to my friend. Ordered an ASUS motherboard from Dabs.com and when he inspected the box, half of the polythene bags containing cables had been opened, and the back plate matching that particular motherboard was missing. Not a happy bunny! Granted, it was an older style motherboard which was marked as discontinued, I think he got the last one. But it certainly wasn't listed as b-grade or second hand. Safe to say he has emailed them to return it.

Royal mail are terrible now davidco :(
This happened 3 weeks ago.
My brother sent a very important letter Special Delivery Next Day as it had a set date in which to get there as it was to do with him getting compensation (few other things too) from getting attacked a while back so it had photo's etc in it which are not easily replaced.
I phoned them up for him after 4 days and like you said they don't want to know unless its after 15 days.
In the end it got there. A total of 19 days for it be finaly delivered with a day spare ;/

Agreed. Royal Mail are absolutely horrendous recently (last couple of years). I used Ebuyer to get an AMD 64 X2 4200+ recently and it was with me the day after I placed the order. Well, after I'd driven forty miles round trip to City Link and queued with TWENTY other irate recipients as City Link are apparently the worst courier known to man.

So, 10/10 for Ebuyer, -10 for City Link (we judge companies even on their delivery choices, Ebuyer - take note).

Well, I think that is rubbish.

T&C for Special Delivery (http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=400025&mediaId=22700553), which state that claims for delayed delivery or consequential loss should be lodged within 14 days of posting. Though you have 12 months for lost or damaged items.

I suspect the person on the end of the phone needs a bit of retraining. I think they are getting confused with the T&C for normal post. Where they do say to wait 15 days (http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump3?catId=400144&mediaId=15500181). The 15 days is to allow for the item to be returned if it can't be delivered or is misdelivered etc.

This situation shouldn't apply to Special delivery etc. since they are should be tracking it all the way.

Generally, I find most couriers ok, as ever they all have cockups, we usually seem to get City Link or ANC here for some reason. I prefer the Royal Mail as we live opposite the post office, which also acts as our delivery office as we live ina village, so if something isn't delivered we don't have to go far to get it :-)

Well, as if as far as RM are concerned it wasn't delivered/was lost, so in that situation I'd claim from them.

I've made a coupe of RM claims over the years, been a pretty painless process.

i think people are missing the point here! lets face it if the CPU was damaged and with bent pins and scuffs from the thermastat, then ebuyer had to knowingly check, reseal, and resell this item therefore they knowingly sold a cpu as new rather than b-grade this is unacceptable i have had items before sent from ebuyer, dabs overclockers and everytime i have made an order some item has turned up obviously b-grade but sold as new and if you do get through to the correct depts you are made to feel like you broke the item, god i hate these people argh.........rant over

Well, he received an email from DABS saying that the motherboard was indeed used stock. Not according to the product description which was still up on their website! It was described as 'Discontinued'.

So he opened a chat session with them (they don't beleive in the telephone - wonder how many stickies that get's them out of) and spoke (typed) with 'Antony'.

Explained the situation and he asked for the order number. As my friend went to get that off their website, he noticed that the product description had changed to 'Used'. The cheeky so and so. However, they don't know who they are dealing with! :D Set browser to 'Offline' Looked at internet history from yestersay. Loaded up webpage for that product. Took screenshot of the page clearly showing it as 'Discontinued' and not 'Used'. Pointed this out to 'Antony' and hey presto, he gave my friend a returns number!

I don't know. Some of these companies think we were born yesterday!

I got worried when I looked at this thread. Late on Tuesday night, I ordered a new HP multi-function printer from ebuyer. have used ebuyer before - I got a new monitor from them earlier in the year - and I had no problems. On Wednesday morning, I saw this thread and wondered whether I had made a dreadful mistake.
I I woke early this morning to await the promised delivery. There, at 9.30am, was the man from City Link with my printer. I've installed it and tried it out and it's working just as it should (touch wood).
I don't doubt for a moment that some people have had problems. A ll I can say is that my experience with ebuyer has been positive. However , I do believe that the true test of a retailer's worth is how they deal with customers when things do go wrong. I used Dabs a couple of times but they were less than helpful when I was dissatisfied (that ludicrous "no telephone" policy should be enough to warn anyone off) and this is why I switched to ebuyer.

I have just had a Seagate hard drive that I got earlier this year from Ebuyer go pear shaped, I RMA it Sun 2cnd Sept at 9-27pm, Mon 3rd Sept 2007 RMA confirmed, I phone E-buyer at 9-00am Tues 4th Sept to arrange for it to be picked up same day, Tues 4th Sept City Link pick it up at 12-55 pm, it arrives back at Ebuyer Wed 5th Sept, and I get an e-mail today Thurs 6th Sept saying the replacement will delivered tomorrow Fri 7th Sept not a bad service at all,

As with any Company things can and do go wrong it has happened to me previously but fortunately for me it was sorted out OK! I hope that by posting the contact Tel No/ of Armando Sanchez at Ebuyer it is beneficial to all members of ADSL24 and the excellent members of this forum.

But i do hear a lot of bad things about them!

i sent a letter recorded delivery, and after 3 days was still not "delivered".. Royal Mail gave the normal leave a week etc and afterwards by chance I got through to someone who cared! After giving the normal reply, she had a thought and checked "elsewhere", and as if by magic there it was! Signed for the day after posting. What had happened was the company had a number of signed for letters and so these all got put on "one sheet".. The delivery was updated for the first on the sheet and none of the others.. Depsite the daily phone calls, Royal Mail said there was nothing they could do, but would *let* me off the fee for having a faxed copy of the POD.. Generous! :D
