Hi all. Should be getting my MAC from Tiscali today for the big move to ADSL24.

My main reason for leaving Tiscali is because I now know that they undertake some form of IP profiling and then block those sites that might generate more network traffic than your average information based web site. So, for me that's all P2P traffic and, more importantly, a web host admin site that I use.

The symptoms, in case anyone else is in the same situation, is that you request a web site, i.e. as a URL in a web browser address field, or connect with your P2P software. You will either not be able to connect at all (in my case as with P2P), or the browser will appear as though you are getting a very slow connection to your taget site (in my case as with the host admin site). So slow in fact that it takes about 5 minutes to eventually time-out. Ordinarily, sites time-out much quicker than this I think (no expert).

I have read in many forums that this is going on with just about every big brand ISP you can think of and I guess is their way of keeping congestion within reasonable limits.

My son was also getting disconnections from MSN every 5 minutes and I have heard plenty of gamers just giving up altogether.

So, I thought I would post this experience, because many people won't know what the issue is. Knowing that ADSL24 does not employee this method to minimise congestion is, for me, a great big plus. If the speed drops a little at peak times, at least I can carry on working.
