|Its gone fro what it used to be to dropping to 3500, I always had 4500 & above, I though interleaving off would raise my profile :(
Interleaving won't generally increase the profile, only help stabalise the line. It's probably gone down due to line dropouts and thus BT have increased the SNR to stabalise the line.

so how would it be possible to raise my profile as my snr looks the same as it did when I migrated to ADSL24, just a little lost now but thats normal for me :D
We can't lower the SNR unfortunately as this is handled by BT's system. They are quite funny about doing anything with the SNR because in their opinion if it has been raised due to line drop outs then a higher SNR is needed to stabalize the line.
You perhaps first of all need to look at why the SNR has been raised. If your line has been dropping out, then what is causing it? Is everything filtered on your line, ie phones and skybox if present? What extentions cables? My apologies if you've been through this before, but it is the most common reason why lines have problems such as yours.

in a hardwired extension from the master socket, tried teh test socket with james on wednesday prior to this post. everything appeared stable & the only line drops I think are my fault :( by switching my router off & swapping them over so this may be the cause.

Can you do a speedtest on the BT one please? http://speedtester.bt.com
Thanks

I'm having the same problem. For months my line was stable at over 2 megs but now my IP profile is at 1200 (and has been as low as 500 K !!)
I hoped switching provider would cause my IP profile to be raised. Here's hoping.
Painkiller,
there is definately something wrong there with your connection. With those stats from your router, you should really be expecting to connect at the full rate of 8128 or not far off that anyway. When you tried it in the test socket with James, at what speed did the router sync then?
Colonelk, can you give us your router stats? Connection rate, Attentuation, Noise margin etc

the router was teh same in teh test socket that it was on teh extenstion, sync at 5680 which should give me a 4500 profile.
The router stats never change & I dont appear to drop so I cant understand whats happened to my connection.
the last profile drop was monday so lets see if it improves as this is now 3days after & BT's profiler may have caught up with teh sync.
Anyway back to teh other part, James had went through everything with me & he stated that it is most likely the exchange. I did once sync at full full rate but that was back in march & I've done that since :(
Shall I raise it as a ticket or wait?
Kev!
BTW I'm 1.04 miles from the exchange so speed should neot be an issue & I should be getting more like 6mb oh well lets.

no phone plugged in
(BT Engineer has been & said my line is ok but who knows)
differnt routers & different extension from teh hard wired one
even a adsl faceplate so I'm lost again btw ping is good in games though hehe

To try and improve things I changed the faceplate of the master socket for a filtered one and plug the ADSL Router (Zyxel Prestige 661-HW) directly into it. There is no extension wiring in the house at all and the cordless telephone plugs directly into the BT6 side of that faceplate.
Its a shocking line anyhow in terms of distance, but is there anything I can do or you can do to get the once dizzy heights of over 2.5 megs back again ?
I'm desperately waiting for fiber to the home or wimax.
Thanks
CK
Painkiller - FANTASTIC. :D Now let's hope it stays that way! ;)
Colonelk, yeah the distance is not doing you any favours. I know you have connected at higher syncs, but your line is up and down probably due to a noisy line. Your SNR is 5 but really needs to be 6 or above to be stable, I bet that SNR varies a lot and goes lower at times. This can cause your router to disconnect and affect your sync rate, which in turn lowers your IP profile.
The only way you will get a higher profile is if your line becomes stable at a higher sync but looking at those logs, it looks unlikely. What is more likely is that your line will continue to connect at different syncs. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower. I think you will have to settle for this :(

Is there anything BT can do to improve the quality of signal on the line?
Can I get them to swap to a different pair and see if its any better?
Or am I in the broadband wilderness........ /tumbleweed..

BT will not do anything because as far as they are concerned, the line is performing as it should for the legnth it is. :(
It looks like you have done all you can. If everything is filtered and you have no 'hidden' extentions around the house, then there isn't much else you can do. Might be worth for the record trying a different filter again in the master test socket.
Some people have reported better connection rates on longer lines with other routers, albeit not massively better. Maybe somebody in a similar situation who has tried different routers could help out?

I have a Linksys router but that is rubbish since I upgraded the firmware. The wireless signal strength dropped by 3/4. Also its far less configurable than the Zyxel too.
I will give it a go (if I can get it downgraded to the previous firmware) and see if it holds a better synch. If not I'm doomed until were all old and fiber is a reality.....
Thanks for your help Mark. Mucho appreciated. :)
