View Full Version : ALT behaviour at 22.00

I noticed the following behaviour of the Anti-Loss Tool during the last 2-3 nights.
Right before 22:00 there is a sudden, uniform drop of all centrals to 4Mbps. Gradually, the centrals regain speed (in a uniform fashion) until their actual traffic/usage starts driving ALT behaviour.

Based on the pattern of these speed changes (see snapshots below), it seems a rather strange (deliberate or accidental) restriction imposed by ALT that is not based on the traffic of each central.

Tonight, this resulted in a 30min loss of speed for C5 (and in less extent for C3) that apparently was not dictated or justified by their traffic (at least in my understanding of how ALT works).

Any explanation on why ALT behaved like this?

When I first joined 3 weeks ago the 10pm peak was rather short and affected 2-3 centrals to about 4-5Mbps. Lately it lasts a lot longer (even past midnight) affecting all centrals (as above) and down to 2-3Mbps. People back from their holidays, a big influx of new customers perhaps, but situation is getting a bit more problematic.

Any news when the new centrals will be live to relieve the pressure?

The new central is in September we think. It always get's like this just before more capacity is added and will be resolved with the new central coming online.

The ALT is working as it should, the issue is that due to last week's problem with customers being kicked off due to two centrals being overloaded and the others being less busy, it's not quite settled down everly yet (blame BT's pipe management) but that's getting better. Of course due to the Bank holiday too more people online more than ever so pipes were busier again.

Sure do :) ADSL24's service is much better than tiscali also! :D
A mentally impaired boxer dog could provide a better broadband service than them :)

Entanet made some changes to the way the ALT works back in July - see http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=entanet&Number=3062761.
