For those who enjoy IRC, we now have a chat channel set up on Freenode.

Server: chat.freenode.net
Port: 6667
Channel: #Club24

If you wish to use it, please register a nick with your chosen password (preferably your forum nick, so ppl know who you are) when you first access the server:

/nickserv register <your password>

Each time you log on to the server you should identify yourself to nickserv:

/nickserv identify <your password>

then join the channel:

/join #Club24

The most popular IRC client is mIRC. It's shareware, and should be registered after a 30-day trial. Downloadable from here (www.mirc.com). You can automate the identify & join commands when you log on in Tools/Options/Connect/Options/Perform. Other clients probably have the same facility but I only use mIRC.

I'll add to this post as necessary. Feel free to add tips, suggestions, whatever. The free bar in the channel is in the smokers' area and Brian buys all the drinks. Looking forward to seeing you there.

edit 1: Ops - autoop has been enabled.

edit 2: FAQ (http://freenode.net/faq.shtml) for the network we're on.

edit 3: Internal link (http://www.adsl24.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=486) to mIRC tutorial.

edit 4: Although the channel is not a moderated one it will be set up that way to give us the option to make it moderated at a later date, if need be. In practice all this means is that bona fide members will be added to the Autovoice list gradually so that, after correctly identifying to nickserv, they will be voiced automatically (+v before their nicks) when they enter the channel. As said, it's of no practical importance at the present time.

Maybe if someone 'shouted' they were going in, others might join. Meantime the OFT serves a similar purpose for some inmates :-)

It did have its busy period but currently is seldom occupied.

And that's despite the free drinks at the bar!!

P.S. I was in there at the time of posting this but by now have probably gone to the bar down the road from my house :)

Only the wealthy folks are asked to pay.....for everyone else. Paul tries to hang on to his life's savings but he's really a generous guy. :D

I have an irc channel called #thebruce on quakenet (I use chatzilla, so it makes it easier to go from freenode, and quakenet) mostly jolt admins and friends from Quake 3, but there a good bunch of lads ...

IRC is a thriving community still....

its mostly used by the old-school who are sick of the new generations of lamers and noobs who have driven the old school underground....

Being driven underground...god that sounds so good!!

"Sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit, these men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the London underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem - If no one else can help - and if you can find them - maybe you can hire the ADSL24-Team."

rofl @ underground - and yeah i know what you mean about all these newbies haha - but then we've all been there at some point

As for the A-Team - it's almost got a ring to it - wonder if they could get permission to use it as a slogan rofl

You'll find me regularly hanging out on #mysql #centos #nm and #asterisk (amongst others).

As Smarty said, it's where the older and wiser gurus hang out - I have had many an SQL proramming problem picked over and resolved/commented upon on IRC.

There's currently 544 people in #mysql

...ok, though, #club24 is a tad quiet!
