Need Urgent Help [Archive]

just come over to adsl24 , got connected today.

My probelm is I got everything up and running on my desktop pc in my bedroom. the internet is working brill and so is e mail etc. it's connected via ethernet on a speedtouch 585v6.

I have a laptop downstairs and am trying to connect that wirelessly, its saying it's connected but when i try to connect to the internet nothing is happening.

Anybody got any ideas??

Did try releasing/renewing your wireless adapter?

it's internal in the lappy, don't know how??

it shows it's connecting to the network but won't seem to set up a network or internet connection tidy.

Go ahead and follow the instructions, esp at Tip 1...you don't need to see the current IP addy, just go ahead and do release and renew

...and when you type, there is a space between config and the forward slash:D

..oh and I'm assuming you're using XP. It different for win98

Go to control panel, network connections. Right-clck the wireless and click properties. Go to TCP/IP, click on properties, and make sure addresses are obtained automatically. Close, right-click on the wireless again, and click repair.

Did you try Pat's suggestion?

I've googled the vista renew/release adapters, but it seems to be the same, though some ppl are reporting that it actually doesn't work.

I have no idea about vista....sorry:(

Has this laptop ever worked with any internet connection? wireless or otherwise?

yes it was working no probs with my orange livebox but got my account closed for being a bit over zealous on downloads.

think i might have just sorted, had to assign my laptop with an ip via the sppedtouch settings.

Best of luck in resolving this, Scoobydoo, but you may get better attention in the ADSL chat or Broadband problems forum. Otherwise you could just join us on the OFT thread and remain thoroughly confused :confused:
