hi all,
just migrated today and i think i have been a little silly!
i first syncd up at 8mb but was gelling slow download speeds so i have tried changing my extension cable and resyncd at 7mb and tried plugging into the test socket but now i only sync at 5mb...
im presuming that the resyncs i made triggered something at the exchange which make me sync at lower speeds and i was wondering if anyone can let me know how to get the sync speed back up as i dont want to be stuck on 5mb once my 10 days training are up and i dont want to resync again in case the speed lowers!
unfortunately GOOGLE was not my friend tonight as i cant find an answer so ill sit here twiddling my thumbs until someone in the know drops me an answer...
cheers in advance and glad to be here instead of AO-HELL...
Hi,
It's just a matter of waiting and the sync will climb back up. Regardless of even after the 10 days, syncs tend to go up and down anyway :)
Patience i'm afraid, but it will get there :)
post your router stats and someone will be able to tell you what your line is capable of

hi, thanks for replying, my router stats are as follows
Uptime: 0 days, 11:06:31
Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 5.920
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 12,99 / 42,83
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,0 / 19,5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 27,5 / 48,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 19,0 / 10,0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 229 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 2 / 1.602.158
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 7.944
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 584
the sn margin has risen from 6 to 10 while ive been at work and the attenuation has changed from 47.5 to 48.5
bt speedtester result
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 4500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5920 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3898 kbps
will try a reboot of router and see if it improves slightly and also requested interleave off because i love xbox live too much!!!
for my profile shouldnt i be able to download faster than this?
anyway thanks for any help you give!!
col..........
just rebooted and line stats are as shown....

I won't comment on the SNR/atten etc. as I've never really got a grip with that.
With regard to speeds and IP profiles.
For a profile of 4500 kbps I'd say 3898 is getting near the max you will get, probably the best you will get is a bit over 4000, they never seem to get up to Profile speed, and don't foget, speeds vary a lot, so 10 minutes later you speed could easily be 500 kbps higher or lower. your IP profile here is slighty low for the Sync - a sync of 5920 can support a ip profile of 5000.
I note you've rebooted and the sync has gone up. I'd suggest stop fiddling with it and leave be for a while an see where it settles a bit. because of the way the system works, it takes time for the IP profile to be increased, once the sync speed rises (the bigger the sync change the quicker an increase should happen). And of course fiddling may make i go down (and just becuase you get it sync higher, the sync can just drop again anyway as line conditions dictate.
A good page on ip profiles (http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm)
yeah if you keep rebooting bt will see it as your line being unstable and in turn will raise your snr and you will likely see a major drop in sync speed then as i have
my downstream attenuation is 39 and i get a sync of around 5500 but my downstream snr is 14.5-15.5

thanks guys! i didnt realise that sync speeds can go up on their own without manually restarting the router..
oh well ill just have to be patient......
cheers gargoyle, that page was very helpful and is now bookmarked
over and out........................
