Hello
I wonder if you can help me.
I've got my new email account set up ok in Outlook Express, but I can't get SMTP to work with Thunderbird (incoming is ok).
Can anyone help me with the settings?

To set up Thunderbird (or Mozilla Suite) to use authentication with your SMTP server:

Go to "Tools -> Account Settings -> Outgoing Server (SMTP)".
(If using Mozilla Suite: go to "Edit -> Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings -> Outgoing Server (SMTP)".)
Select the server and press the Edit... button.
Check the "Use name and password" option.
Add your username. Your username might be your full e-mail address (e.g., "yourname@yourname.adsl24.co.uk")
Click "OK".

I am Not sure if this may help you, but here goes anyway;
I use thunderbird from my usb pen drive on occasions, and if your not sure of the settings, and yet you have it working ok in outlook express.
1) from the thunderbird user interface,
2) click tools tab, and then import, settings, then select outlook express.

works fine for me.
you can also import existing mail this way and address books
you can then also view the settings and see how it looks..

Thunderbird will ask you for your password the first time you try to send mail

Hi Aorman.
Did you use a new email ady that you created on adsl24 control panel ?.
or are we talkng about the one Brian set up for you by default?. If so you need to make a new one yourself. to have full client functions.
Cheers........

Yes I used a new email which I set up in adsl24 cPanel

Thunderbird
check your settings. go to tools /accounts settings. select the name on the account, and in panel on the right it should read:

your name: name@username.adsl24.co.uk
email address: name@username.adsl24.co.uk
reply to address: name@username.adsl24.co.uk

and just below is server settings: window. should read as below

server type: pop mail server

server name: mail.username.adsl24.co.uk
user name: name@username.adsl24.co.uk

port 110 default 110

Then at the very bottom of the left panel"scroll down" to outgoing server name: (smtp) should read in right panel.
server name: mail.username.adsl24.co.uk
user name: name@username.adsl24.co.uk

and make sure the user name password box is ticked in above settings...

paste these in and replaces user names with yoursy, see what happens.
these settings work fine for me... Hope this helps you.....
