My router has sync'ed at 448 upload speed for months but since yesterday it has dropped to 352 and I can't get it back to where it was previously despite numerous resyncs / restarts. I know the sort of thing that can affect the download sync speed but is it the same for the upload? Is there anything in DMT that can be used to tweak it back to 448?

Usually means a line fault, or a filter/phone interfering with the upstream.

Yes first thing I would try is a spare/new filter. One of my 'old' filters only allows a certain upstream rate.

Thanks for your advice. I'll have to plug directly into the test socket because I have an ADSL faceplate instead of filters.

Don't repeatedly reboot/resync your router as BT's systems may take this as evidence of a problem with the line & raise your target SNR.

Oh dear! I had to resync/restart a number of times today, in order to test my installation. But I'm with AOL and the exchange has been unbundled. Does the same thing apply, as regards frequent resyncs?

Yeah, it would still apply

Several reboots of your router throughout the day should be fine. Doing lots of them within an interval of an hour can cause your target SNR to be increased.

Unfortunately, the numerous resyncing and rebooting took place during the course of my troubleshooting which probably took less than an hour so I may have inadvertantly made things worse by this. If the target SNR has been raised, I assume I'm getting a corresponding reduction in speed. Will the monitoring equipment at the exchange automatically adjust itself back to normal if the router is left alone for a while?

It should do, after a couple of weeks of stable sync. You'll have a good idea as to whether or not the target SNR has been raised but checking the SNR margin immediately after rebooting the router. Might be best to post all your router stats - attenuation, sync speed, & SNR margin so ppl can try to make sense of them.
