Migrated to here yesterday (15.00 hrs), on max adls, all was well, the broadband is working fine no problem, my Netgear DG834g v3 is syncing at just under 2.5mb and has not lost sync or varied once.

Phone worked fine last night, now there is no dial tone and when using my mobile to call my home number I can hear the line ringing from my mobile but the telephone does not ring, also I can't make any out going calls.

The sympton is as if someone has rung me and not put the phone down there end, although I can't hear any ambient noise, so I doubt that, plus there would be an engaged tone when ringing from my mobile.

I was going to take the faceplate off the master socket and test it there, but I don't want my router to lose sync at all if I can help it in the 10 day training period.

Is this a known problem that can happen after migration?...and does anyone have any ideas or thoughts of what I can do / check ect?

i.e. could BT have messed something up or doing something perhaps?

TBH.. if there is no dial tone.. the first thing I would do is unplug ALL the phones that are connected to a socket in your house.

Then just take one phone, ensure that you have a microfilter connected to a socket where you shall plug in that one phone.

Test it.. is there a dial-tone?

Try plugging it in without the microfilter connected? Dial tone?

If nothing.. contact BT.. tell them your issue.. hopefully they shall sort it out quickly by doing a line test diagnose a fault.

Hopefully it will comne back of it's own accord. I have the same problem occasionally - both before and after I migrated, so it's a line problem. BT don't want to know, when I report it they just say 'if it's still down tomorrow call us again' and every time the line comes back up - sometimes within 30 minutes, the longest was three hours.

Someone else posted something similar on here a few days ago, it turned out to be a corroded connection on his local telephone pole. Trouble with these intermittent faults is just that - they're intermittent.

Sounds like a filter problem too.

I've tried everything KDMG suggested and more. In my case there's nothing internal that I can tie it down to.

Doesn't it sound a bit of a coincidence that the day after I migrated the filter should pack up?

As I mentioned I'm trying to avoid my router losing sync if I can, but I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and test it.

Many thanks all for your replies, I will try the test socket now and see if there is a dial tone and report my findings back here in a few minutes.

I have the same problem! I rang up bt and they said it was a internal fault and therefore cost £120 to fix! So i have just left it. Maybe it is at ADSL24 end?

Right, I have just taken the face plate off the Master socket and tried two known working phones straight into the test socket, nothing completely dead!!!

Have you tried taking the face plate off the master socket and tried a known working phone in the test socket?

If you try that and still have a problem it cant be anything internal as by removing the faceplate it disconnects and internal wiring.

Thanks Tony,

I have logged the fault using BT's website, it did a line check and said it was doing more checks to diagnose any possible fault and to check back in two hours.

Will just have to wait and see I suppose.....

I will keep you posted as things delevop....if at all....:rolleyes:

Right,

BT have just called me on my mobile and confirmed that the fault is at the telephone exhange and they will be going there tomorrow to rectify the problem.

Bearing in mind I have just migrated, does it sound like they made a mess of it?

Does anyone have an idea what the fault at the exhange could be?...bearing in mind the broadband is working fine.

A migration fault that I had once involved "jumpers". Phone was ok, and adsl was fine (ie sync'd) but I wasn't able to login to ISP.

Don't worry about hijacking the thread, my prob should be sorted now...fingers and everything crossed!!!!!:rolleyes:

As long as your sure you have checked everything and plugged a known working phone straight into the test socket of the master socket, with the faceplate off, then it has to be an external problem and just contact BT to get it sorted.

Have you tried using their website? as I just have, seems better than ringing them in my view.

BT fixed the problem at the exchange this morning, so have phone back up and running.

Then web pages were taking an age to load...I thought oh no here we go again, anyway from the router login page I disconnected and re-connected and everything is now running well.

Phew!!

And I've had a word with two of my neighbours today who both say they have similar voice line 'blackouts' occasionally, so next time it happens to me I'm gonna have another go at BT
