All unsecured wide open for anybody to use.

Huh, I did what I thought was the Right Thing and strolled down to knock the door of the user of the open network I'd (ahem) piggy-backed off a couple of times - purely as a scientific experiment of course. They're off our christmas card list, it seems I had "no business snooping" on their 'net connection and should "mind" my own in future. There you go, next time I find one I'll use it for my d/loads and bugrum!

lol
you have to be carefull, Mind you, a router password will not stop peps using your wireless network, only prevent them altering your router settings for there own use. only a password and encrypted key will possibly prevent that, and this is a seperate part of your router settings, ie: your wirless settings
from within your router. I know many people whom end up turning the encryption off as they find it a little complicated. I would always say to them.
learn how to do it, its not hard, or disable your wireless because if you live in a busy area, then its likely people will cruise around in a car with a laptop, looking for easy access. Believe... it happens a lot....
