I had an update to Firefox come through a couple of days ago and now I've lost all my saved password data. This is the second time that this has happened in the last couple of months. It's not a biggy for some sites as all that's saved is my e-mail address and a password that I use for non-critical websites. However, sometimes you get "issued" userids and passwords that you can't change, e.g. for airline FF schemes and such and it's a total pain trying to dig out all the info.

Anyway, my questions are; Has this happened to anyone else? and is there any way to back up the userids/passwords in Firefox short of printing them out?

No, hasn't happened here (3 PC's, all XP)

Re backing up:

To back up passwords you need to back up three files from the profile:

signons.txt
key3.db
cert8.db

Though there are other files in the profile worth backing up.

You can do this manually, you can add them into your normal regular backup procedures (what I've done), or there are specific tools available. (Note, lots of other apps store data in the Application data directories in windows - assuming you are on windows. It's owrth seeing what else you might want to ensure is backed up.)

For more info on Managing Firefox Profiles (http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile)

Mozbackup (http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/) is a Firefox extension for backing up and restoring profiles.

If you want to export the data you can use the Password Exporter (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848) extension, which will export the usernames/passwords in an XML or CSV file (import the latter into a spread sheet for a nice easy to read table)

Mozbackup is good...I've used that a few times, and once when I went to remove a single password, and clicked Remove all instead of just remove:eek::eek:

No problems with recent FF updates for me. I 'belt and braces' my passwords using an external password 'safe'. There are lots of them available for download, just google 'password software free' and make your choice.
