Hi. I have been running the BT speedtest for quite a while now and I think my line has a problem. These are my results from the last 3 days.

Dec 26 @ 12:45
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1449 kbps

I am about 1 mile from the exchange so would expect to be getting near full speed from my connection. Should I be logging a support ticket for this?

Cheers

If you're getting these results using a wired connection, and you've tried connecting your router/modem to the test socket at the back of your master socket, then you should definitely contact support about this.

This morning I ran the test and I got this:

Dec 29 @ 08:45
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4167 kbps

Now I'm confused about whether there is a problem or not. What speed should I be getting being a mile from the exchange?

To answer your questions tboorman I have no idea how to find the test socket and I am on a wired connection, though I do run the connection through a Powerlan type product ie using the house wiring to carry my broadband signal. My router is in a diferent room from my PC and the wireless adaptor I had didn't work.

The test socket details can be found here. http://adsl24.co.uk/faq/index.php?ac...=48&artlang=en

Worked for me after reading it.

I would recommend using a direct wired connection from your PC to your router when running the BT speed test.

Ok I plugged in directly to the router and got this result

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4033 kbps

So didn't make any difference at all.

It's not that I am unhappy with the speed (and pings for gaming seem ok) but I think it should be better than what it is.

Try connecting your router to the test socket at the back of your master socket - see http://adsl24.co.uk/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=5&id=48&artlang=en. If the results you get are no better, then create a support ticket.

Well I ran it connected to the test socket and the results were worse.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2124 kbps

Guess it's time for a support ticket

Not really much we could offer as if it' above BT's threshold of 400 kbps they won't do squat :(

Ok I didn't know that was the case. Well I'm happier than when I was with VM so I'll live with it.

Even when the OP should clearly be getting a better IP throughput?

We can log it with BT as normal. but it's under their discretion if they will investigate if it's over 400 kbps.

Whats the point in having a testing function if they wont do nowt about it.They should make their minimum threshold of 1000 kbps then maybe they might help people instead of fobbing them off.

Oh, I know they should - I'd be the first to agree.
