I think you need to clarify just what you mean by 'connect' here. It's common during the training period to experience disconnections. It's been said that one should reboot the router once a day during training but it's not actually necessary.

Your attenuation is rather high staticshock. Could you please try connecting to the test socket at the back of your master socket, and see whether that improves things?

staticshock
05/03/2007, 21:34
I tried nothing changed i have no extensions just the one master socket

Is it looking bad:(

before my migration i kept details for my router settings

I seem to have 3/4 different DNS address's from different posts which one is the best in peoples opinion??

Do not just say the one that works for you please;)

Waiting my 10 days is going to be hard only day 1 and i am frustrated:o

Let's wait and see what happens after your 10 day training period ends.

I'd recommend using the OpenDNS ones - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

do you think i should change to these or continue using
195.74.102.146
195.74.102.147

Will it make any difference?
.
I am getting 3meg at the moment but hope i can get bit more:eek:.

Will have to see at end of 10 days sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Your downstream attenuation is a lot better. Are you still gettings lots of disconnects now?

since the one on my first day which was monday have not had any other problems.

It seems as though i am not getting any higher than 3meg hope they try and give me more

It is only my 3rd day on the 10 day cycle i suppose

Just tried latest capability estimator and it looks like this is all i will get

http://212.23.23.177/ADSL/default.aspx

Enter your line data to receive an estimate of what the possible downstream speeds you may achieve if you are able to run on a rate-adaptive service.

Current Line Sync (connection) speed in Kilo bits per second (Kbps) router showing 3905

Downstream Line Attenuation (dB) 15.5

Noise Margin, sometimes referred to as Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) 5.5

If you do not know how to obtain your line stats from your ADSL modem or router then visit Kitz's website which shows how to get these values for lots of kit.

We estimate that if using a rate adaptive up to 8Mbps service your maximum line speed will be: 3905Kbps .

If your service provider uses ADSL2+ we estimate you may manage line speeds of 22599Kbps

If you are on a Max product, that uses the IP Profile system (sometimes called BRAS Data Rate) if you maintain the above line speed for 3 days or more your IP Profile would be set to 3Mbps

With ADSL2+ the maximum IP throughput is likely to be around 19999Kbps

staticshock - there's something wrong with the second set of attenuation figures. D/S attenuation is always appreciably higher than U/S. Your second set of figures looks skewed to me; either the router is not reporting attenuation correctly or you've quoted them back to front. :)

Its a router bug :) Usually a router reboot sorts it out.

3meg!!!!!!!!!! I wish.

Day two for me and my latest test gave a result of 96 Kb/s. Its going to be a very frustrating 8 days at this rate

Migrated over at the same time 5th and only took 5 working days.
I am approx 6 mile from the exchange and only expect 1.5meg as advised by BT.
2 days in was getting 990k download with 69db attenuation SNR 9.8

1152K download now
SNR 8.9
63.9 attenuation

Just rebooted router
SNR settling around 5.4
1504k
63.9 att

Only need a decent email address now.

Yes it did back to 55 down:(

Ircsum

As James suggested, you can get the correct figures by telnetting to the router. The main consideration here is your actual distance from the exchange as this and the SNR are the main determinants of your speed.

Attenuation is just an indirect measure of this distance, based on signal degradation. The longer the line the more the signal degrades, thus the higher the attenuation.

Results Image not loaded

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 3000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 4064 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2419 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.

If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.

Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.

I know i am keeping on but i am a bit of a sponge at the moment with all this info.

If my profile is 3000kbps will this change over the 10 days or is that sorted right at the start, and they are just trying to find my peak speed that is stable??

Also if my DSL down is4064kbps why is my profile not 4000kbps.

Sorry if i sound thick but trying to learn and thanks to you guys & girls:D i have learnt a lot in a very short time

The training period is just to set your MSR (Maximum Stable Rate) & FTR (Fault Threshold Rate), which is [MSR - 30%]. The FTR is the synch rate below which you can scream "Fault" at your ISP and BT may actually do something about it.

The training period does not determine what speeds you may actually get at any time in the future. Your download speed is determined by your IP Profile which, in turn is determined by the lowest synch speed you've had over a 3-day period.

Here's a table to show you: (apologies for the formatting)

Synch................Profile

from 288Kbps ...... 0.25Mbps
from 576Kbps ...... 0.5Mbps
from 1152Kbps .... 1Mbps
from 1728Kbps .... 1.5Mbps
from 2272Kbps .... 2Mbps
from 2848Kbps .... 2.5Mbps
from 3424Kbps .... 3Mbps
from 4000Kbps .... 3.5Mbps
from 4544Kbps .... 4Mbps
from 5120Kbps .... 4.5Mbps
from 5696Kbps .... 5Mbps
from 6240Kbps .... 5.5Mbps
from 6816Kbps .... 6Mbps
from 7392Kbps .... 6.5Mbps
from 7968Kbps .... 7Mbps
8128Kbps ........... 7.15Mbps

To take an example: For a 4 Mbit profile you need to remain synched at 4544 - 5119 kbps for 3 days continuously. Any synch below that range will lower your profile within 75 minutes.

That's just an outline but enough for you to be getting on with. ;)

GREAT!! my ip profile gets lifted to 3500 then i start to sync at 3776when i have been syncing at 4069 for 3 days or more

This means i will go back to 3000 right???

Bummer

EDIT Back down to 3000 feeling very unhappy now
