Found my connection this am very slow, including email. When I did manage a speedtest it was just 162Kbs. Router showed snr at 5.5. Switched Router (Speedtouch 580) off for 5mins and back on, no difference. Phone lines OK. Has remained the same until 1600 when I left.
What is my best approach to finding the fault.
Using my local Tech college PC at the moment

What results do you get from the BT Broadband Performance Tester at http://www.speedtester.bt.com/?

and I moved here from freedom2surf for a better connection!

Help please

Edited comment. I understand that it takes up to 10 days for the BT exchange software to settle down but should it really run THIS slowly?

thanks in advance for any help or advice

Hi robber, welcome to Adsl24. Could you please post the line stats being reported by your modem/router?

HI Tim , thanks for the welcome I cant post the popup as after a time it hyperlinks to netgears site however heres the data;

Connection time 00.00.02
Negotiation Success
Authentication Success
Getting IP 87. etc

I suspect this is not much help si if you can point me elsewhere for further tests please do.

BTW Ive set the prim and sec DNS server addresses rather than use the 'get automatically option.

Neil

Hi Neil,

It's your sync speed, attenuation and SNR that I'm interested in.

HI Tim, just had a call from ADSL support, weve ben through the settings and everything looks great. I'll sit back a wait for things to settle down for a bit and rasie the issue again if things don't get better.

For the record everything looks pretty good;

5664 down 448 up.

Attn of 40db and 11.5 db (I'm a fair way form the exchange).

Technical issues aside I'm well impressed with my first dealings with ADSL24 support. Thanks for all your help James.

Your line stats don't look too bad. Your present sync speed will give you an IP profile of 4.5 Mbps, but your sync speed will fluctuate a lot during the 10 day training period. I'm surprised that the actual throughput being reported by the BT Broadband Performance Tester is so low - have you tried some other speed testers to see whether they report similar results?

HI Tim, Ive tried a few tests over the last couple of hours with speedtest.net.

Best so far was 246 kbps so its up to useable speed now :)

cheers

I am no expert but running TCP Optimizer does help if you get low dowload rates after the training period. It is simple to use.
