View Full Version : Problem connecting to websites
In the last few weeks I have discoverd that I can not access some websites , I never used to have this problem, its not all the time i cant get acces just now and again, I dont think its my Router so is there a problem with servers out there or something
Have you tried changing the MTU on the router to 1400 or 1500 then saving/rebooting the router?
If this does not help, can you post a traceroute and the URL of these sites so we can test.
Hi
This may be completely unrelated but I used to periodically get this, especially when the centrals were busy. It seemed to be DNS related so I switched one of my dns server IPs in my netgear router to
208.67.222.222 ( open dns ) but retained the other as the usual adls24 one.
I haven't had one problem since, and thats over a period about 2 months.
I have seen the MTU solution to various problems mentioned several times. I may be missing the point, but surely this just affects the efficiency of data thruput? If too big packets of data gets split/fragmented into different atm frames reducing efficiency, if too small your simply not making best use of the available thruput??????
Glad to be educated if there are other factors to do with mtu causing these problems :)
cheers
I have set the MTU 1478 as reconmended from someones post in this forum from a while back seem's to be going fine so far.
cheers anyways 's :D
Some sites/routers/gateways are set to a lower than usual MTU so therefore having an MTU of 1500 sometimes causes the site to be inaccesible.
