Can anyone please explain to me why, a month after migrating here, I am still getting intermittent speeds and have to keep re-booting my connection daily to gain anything near average?

This is a series of tests I've just run and have had to re-connect between each to reach a decent speed ...

One thing I have noticed though, apparent from the above tests, is that as my speed increases, my latency gets worse!

My current stats are ....

Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 14 db 5 db
Noise Margin 11 db 21 db

Do I need to raise a ticket for any of this?

I can guarantee that by morning I will need to re-connect to regain a decent speed again :(

Hi SC,

There's a thread over on the thinkbroadband.com forum where James Blessing (boggits) asks that anyone who's affected by this emails Entanet support, giving details of the router they're using, and whether they're using PPPoA or PPPoE. I've got exactly the same problem, if it makes you feel better!

The thread being here, clicky (http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=entanet&Number=2925339&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=0)

I don't like getting hung up on speeds and testing, but something I have noticed which intrigues me is that the apparant overall achieved is much lower than I expected - taking into account that not all Entanet customers necessarily use this speed test so the results are hardly definitive.
Also I note my speed to be higher than average (smug) :D

Actually, there are a number of threads on AG on this subject.

Best guess is that's it's an effect of the anti-loss tool. When there is pressure on the Centrals at night the anti-loss tool reduces speeds for everyone. This seems to be done via Enta RADIUS settings. Once the pressure on the Centrals is off, the RADIUS settings should adjust to allow users get the increased speeds but this does not happen in some cases - including mine.

If I were cynical (which of course I'm not :)) I might suggest it's not in Enta's interests to fix this as, depending on how extensive the "problem" is, it may siginificantly reduce demand on their bandwidth. Certainly Enta's response to the issue has been muted, despite several people complaining about it for quite a while now. I'm reminded of a couple of issues in recent months where Enta seemed not to acknowledge there was a problem when, in fact, the "problem" was of their own making.

Ircsum.

Excellent points and ones also discussed in other places. Some folk are finding the need to reboot to force a reconnection to a faster connection something of a trial - it ought to happen automagically......

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll go read up on it over on the other forums you mentioned.

Just for comparison, this is another test I've just done and all the PC's have been switched off overnight and I've only just come back online, so not been running anything that might cause a dip at my end ...

All this Max stuff is a bit of a mystery to me having been on a fixed 2Mb line for the last couple years, so I'm not sure whether this is something normal or indicative of a problem somewhere, hence my questions :)

It's not a matter of whether or not the PCs have been switched off.....it's whether or not you've rebooted/reset the router.

I've had a few storm related issues of late, but powered off / on the router 2/3 days ago, with the following result being fairly consistent at this time of day - 'school kids on Messenger time of day'...

If anyone has this issue, it's worth raising a ticket about it, as Entanet apparently now know how to fix it - http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=entanet&Number=2944406.

I raised a ticket about it yesterday Tim, as well as requesting for interleaving to be taken off, and this morning I had great results :D

See my other post! ;)

Glad it's sorted for you SC, but there may still be others who have the same problem ;).
