o2 seem to have a system in place to send a text to users when an outage occurs, then again once its fixed.

This would be a great little thing for ADSL24 / Entanet to introduce, obviously it wouldnt be anywhere near as cheap for them to do than for o2, but if theres very few outages then its a small cost.

When its £20 or more a month a few pence every few months (or years?) on a text message would be a very small price but could be another selling point.

Alot of the outages are BT related that only effect users in specific area codes. Would be a long winded process to text just them users

plus to text 10,000 users, not including man power is gonna cost somthing like £2,000.... for 02, this will be nothing, and will proberbly even be ofset against tax !!!

Nah Smartybones, won't cost anywhere near that much (20p a text?) , bulk SMS rates are much cheaper than the standard consumer rate.

Paulbacon, why would it be long winded? - the whole system would be automated.

I used to be with AAISP, they had exactly this system (more so, it could also send an SMS to notify you of usage limits being neared, and other things IIRC) It worked well, and was useful. what it actually looked for was an active connection. If the router was disconnected for example it would send a message then.

I'd find such a system useful if it was introduced.

however much it cost, would still be placed on the customer... i would sooner have to pay less, and phone james to see what the issue was if my connection went down....

lol, imagine a outage at 3AM.... Beep Beep....beep beep....., the missus would be well happy at getting woke up lol

With the AAISP system you could only to send SMS alerts within certain hours

We've actually thought about this previously however it would simply cost too much to text users affected every time BT go down in an area. There would be too much cost to be able to offer it at no extra costs and we do more than enough already (I hope) to keep everyone informed of any issues as much as we can without having to increase monthly fee's :)

I thought that might be the case.

Maybe you could offer it as an additional service for people if they want it?

Or would the lack of numbers (presumably) make it unworthwhile to do?
