View Full Version : a quick few questions on stuck profiles.
Just switched over to ADSL from pipex, where i would get 800-840 k/sec.
I just tested and it maxing out like a 2mb line.
Now, i have seen the FAQ about stuck profiles, but jsut so im informed.
a) will random rebooting help?
b) will it sort its self out (chances of that happening?)
c) If im getting 2mb max after a couple of hours switch over does that mean im more than likely locked.
d) how easy/painful is it for BT to unlock it.
Im guess the key here is that all that has changed is the ISP.. nothing else. So i know its cabable of much faster speeds..
I have seen ceecee thread.. but can someone (james?) explain what is going on behind the scenes with this initial 2mb limit
etc?
stats:
ADSL
Data rate (Kbps)
8128 448
Noise margin (dB)
9.6 23.0
Output power (dBm)
19.8 12.2
Attenuation (dB)
24.0 12.0
You shouldn't have gone through any retraining if you are switching from one ADSL MAX product to another. You didn't happen to move to an office package did you? I seem to remember that those DO require another training period.
A) Random rebooting will make it worse since BT will see all of the disconnections and resyncs and presume you have line problems, thus raising your target SNR and reducing your sync speed.
B) Some do, some don't. It's best to leave it a few days. If it still hasn't changed then raise a support ticket.
C) Not if you're going through another training period, it doesn't. I'm not sure what it signifies if you aren't.
D) It's all supposed to happen automatically. After your connection has remained steady for a while (up to 3 days) your IP profile will raise to the appropriate one for your sync speed. If you were originally getting 800-840kB/s with Pipex, I would assume that's the maximum 7150.
Plus if you come from LLU that will invoke the training period...
No, not gone to office, and not from a LLU.
So Cavey/James.. i should leave the router well alone, and let it go for a few days, then BT will see a stable connection and up it again, back to normal speed?
Does that sound about right?
Cheers
It SHOULD rise on it's own accord within the next three days. Large rises, like the one you are waiting for, usually take much less than the 3 days though.
The thing is, you should not really have seen any drop in your profile anyway. You have not moved from a fixed line nor LLU and you have not moved to an Office MAX product. Therefore there is no reason your line should be going through retraining.
James will probably appear sometime soon with more advice. :)
Any ideas James? and tests/checks you can do from your end? Im guessing the guy that flipped teh switch didn't have the info that I was from another ADSL max package.. and didn;t do something..
Ther is nothing you can do yet. Some migrations end up making the profile reset to 2000 (BT don't even know why still!) and it usually fixes itself within 72hrs of migration. If it doesn't, run a BT speedtest and log a ticket with us so we can kick Bt.
sure will do.. cheers for the help..
are BT quite responsive in this now? as it seems a common theme on migrations?
Yay speed going up.. resync'd (after just leaving the router on all the time) now get 666KB/sec.. so thats good.. hopefully I will hit 840 like i did at pipex, but i can live with this easy.
upload to be expected.. as vpn etc is working..
cheers

cheers
