View Full Version : Do I need a MAC to transfer to Be* ?
Hi,
I have been with ADSL24 since September and have never had a problem but Be* have set an enablement date of March for my Exchange. Even know ADSL24 have been faultless the temptation of up to 24mb down and 2.4mb up for £22 p/m is too great and I will be migrating over to them once it becomes available. I was just wondering if I will need to request a MAC to transfer to Be*?
Cheers,
Craig

i considered Be at one point, but thought better of it.....
they have been selling bandwith to O2 and O2 have been signing up lots of customers.... it wont be long before the limited facilities they have are saturated.... then the throttleing will be begin
Im the same. BE are enabling me this march so will prob move.

i may be wrong but i dont believe you get the 24 meg download IF you want the 2.5meg upload as they have to alter your line and the available download speed in order to offer the extra 1 meg of upload speed

I believe you loose about 1.5 - 2mb for the 2.5 upload from the 1.5 mb upload.
Also to note o2 actually owns Be* :)

i thought it was the other way around..... oh well, you learn....
The extra upstream ADSL2+ offers does so by tapping it to some of the downstream frequencies, thus you lose part of the downstream speed. It's normally like for like, so an extra 1Mb upstream = 1Mb less downstream on an average (<30dB attenuation).
A few points to take into consideration if you are thinking about Be*
- 3 month contract with 3 month cancellation notice period (so minimum 6 months really)
- LLU migration fee (£45+vat) when you wish to transfer back to another ISP as they will move your line off the BT network
- Overseas support
:)

thats interesting about the contract part because id read on thier site somewhere that they dont have a minimum contract but do like 3 months notice if you want to leave unless your on there basic package which is a 1 year contract
i had a friend call thier support line and he couldnt undrstand a word they said LOL

not only that, but they supply you with a pre-configured router, and insist you use it.... no support otherwise....
speed is not everything, for what i get here at adsl24, i really dont think it is worth the risk of trying them out.... I'll stick here thank very much.... i can wait untill 21CN and then get the speeds WITH the exelent support...
