My 10 day training is over, and I seem to be averaging around 6mb during the week, but weekends only reaching around 2mb. I understand my line will take 8mb so is these speeds normal.:(
It will depend on Central loading, mainly.
To check which Central you're on, use this (http://tools.entachoice.org.uk/central.cgi) and to see the expected output of the 3 Centrals, use this (http://noc.enta.net/).

This is probably down to the rate limiting being applied by Entanet's anti-loss tool. They badly need the 4th central now.
One the new Central is installed everyone should be seeing so much faster speeds too :D

that first link said this
Gateway: elm
Central Pipe: Telehouse 2
Central status: Amber - Almost full (600 to 622Mb)
Expected Performance: 7.2 Mbps

See noc.enta.net for up-to-date status of central pipes
EntaChoice
But I dont get near 7.2mb
Just checked & TH2 was showing 2.4.......was down to 2.0, 20 minutes ago. Think you may have read the wrong numbers, raceylady. ;)

Because of any overheads on your line you will never match the Expected Performance shown.
Cliff:)
K, apologies then....but at least we're agreed on the most recent figure. :)

Ask anyone if they ever achieve the Expected Performance shown. I think it would be NO. Overheads explained (http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/maxdsl2.htm)
Maximum Speeds
Although MaxDSL is advertised as "Up to 8Mb", in reality even if you have an excellent line and manage to sync at the full 8128 kbps, the very maximum throughput speed you can receive will be nearer 7Mb due to ATM overheads.
It is also anticipated that speed variations will be much greater particularly during peak periods due to factors such as exchange congestion etc. In fact BTw even warn that at peak times speeds may be the similar to an equivalent 2Mb fixed rate service.
