just set up a music server upstairs using wireless to serve a roku streamer downstairs. i am finding the signal buffers quite abit due to weak wireless signal. short of moving the router which is not really an option is there a way to improve the signal to downstairs?

You might be able to adjust the gain (output power) of the routers wireless card through the CLI or the use of third party apps.

Or you could replace your antenna(s) with ones from the likes of Wi-Fi Link (http://uk.wifi-link.com/), although I don't know if the st-585 or the other gear have removable sma antennas?

Another option is to have a repeater somewhere in-between to extend the wireless range (i.e. another AP or router configured for bridge mode)

IMO a bridge or range-extender is the best option for your setup, but replacing the antenna(s) [if poss.] wouldn't hurt either.

now looking at an external aerial, the first problem is that the 585 does not have a removable aerial, next question being has anyone successfully adapted the aerial to take an external one?
