Hi everyone. This is my first day using ADSL24. I was just trying to play Warcraft and it keeps disconnecting me. I was also using Ventrillo voice chat software and this is with a server in Holland. Both Warcraft and Ventrillo keep disconnecting and I don't understand why. Please ask me for info and I will post it. Thank you for all your help!

Post your modem's Stat please! If you're connecting to ADSL Max service the FIRST time, it is possible that your connection could be a bit of "unstable" for a few days as the BT ADSL Max SW is hunting for your "sweet point" to suite your particular line. Do'nt disconnect or interrupt your modem connection during this period as the BT side may think that you have a "bad" line and start winding down your line sync speed to compensate for it!

Ok thanks Happy32. I will try and find where my modem's stats are and then post them. Never seen any modem stats before but will look around again. I am on Home 30. ADSL24 support have asked me to try using the BT master socket.

I left it on overnight and it disconnected at 6:10am and then at 8:00am. I think I'm going to have to move my PC into my lounge where the socket is instead of using an extension cable but please be aware that I was using this setup on the previous ISP and it was pretty stable.

It is better to have the modem as close to the phone socket as possible and use an ethernet cable to connect that to the PC than use a long extension. It helps minimise degradation of the connection.

I think the problem is an extension cable in the house I live in which runs from the master socket to another room. I moved the socket on the same day as I changed ISPs. Thanks for your help everyone.

You know what's really odd about these disconnections. It's always at 20 past the hour and 20 to the hour! Well, 9 times out of 10 it is! I wonder why it's nearly always those times? Strange!

Something on a timer maybe? DSL is a pain for interference at times!

But nevertheless its good you trying to rule out other stuff, before pointing the finger to adsl24 :)

I wonder if SKY+ is polling out at those times. I've disconnected the SKY phoneline to see if that's it.

It certainly sounds like a problem with interference. Do you know any of your household applicances which switch on/off at 20 past the hour?

As previously stated an ethernet-standard cable would probably improve the stability of your connection:-

Also an ADSL faceplate may improve things:-

I have both of these and not only did my sync rate increase (enough to take me to the next profile), but my SNR no longer plummets on an evening.

It's not SKY as far as I'm aware as I've tried unplugging it. The disconnection still occurs at the same times which has really made me curious about this. I've tried replacing micro-filters too.

As an aside, do any experts know if these router settings are correct for Home 30 using a D-Link DSL-624T router (ADSL2+ router)?

Does anyone think this could be something to do with using TalkTalk as my phone provider? or if the ADSL24 package I'm on disconnects me every 30 mins (10 past and 20 to the hour)?

Beta_Tester
02/04/2008, 22:22
No, I don't think so. Your line is still provided by BT, it is just that Talk Talk act as the billing agent.

You might want to try setting your router's "Modulation type" to ADSL or Auto. It shouldn't be ADSL2.

Any other stats in with this ?
Item / Downstream / Upstream / Unit
SNR Margin / 8 / 18 / dB
Line Attenuation / 28 / 15 / dB
Data Rate / 6048 / 448 / kbps

Errored seconds
CRC Errors
Loss of signal etc

Try again mines just dropped out.

Here are some router stats. I'm going to try my old broadband modem to see if it's the router. Also just changed modulation type to ADSL so I will monitor that first.

After changing the modulation type to ADSL, it was ok from 10.30am until 12.10pm and then it disconnected. I can hear it when it disconnects on the router making a very quiet clicking sound for a second. I'm going to try my old broadband modem just to see if it helps at all. The router is brand new so it may be that. Worth a try! Also just swapped the ADSL cable for a new one.

IP Control: Dynamic IP

I don't know if this make a difference.I have mine set to "static".

Thanks for all the replies and help everyone.

I have changed my setup to use my broadband modem instead of my router and so far it has been online now for over 5 hours without any disconnection. I will continue to monitor into the evening and night but if it stays online, I need to figure out why the router drops the connection so often....

Just updating the router firmware and will update with any info.

Updated the firmware on the router and it still disconnects at the same times. Anyone know why this happens on my router but not my USB broadband modem?

Either the router is just 'fussier' and not so good at holding the connection under poor conditions (maybe there is something causing a bit of extra interference on the line at certain times)

Or maybe the router is just duff - I'd see about getting it replaced as it certainly would not appear to be 'fit for the purpose'.
