Hi,
anyone got any advice on the matter of broadband speed drop.
I used to get 6+ mbs now I only get max 1.9.
Should I take it up with BT or adsl24?

Same boat mate, been here a couple of weeks and nowhere near the speed i was getting with BT, as poor as that was.

Is this during peak times (mon-fri b4 10pm) or just off-peak and at the weekends ?

If you post some more details maybe someone could advise further... :)

Please try and post the following:

How long have you been with ADSL24?

IF you have just joined in the past week, then your line might be "re-training" and therefore will be 2mb for 10 days.

Then after 10 days, it will shoot back up to full speed.

Having similar problems here, router is connecting properly and synching in at correct rate but ip profile on here is now showing at 2500 where as all weekend it has been showing at 1500 tried re booting router as read in various thread also tried changing to another central but stays the same have now raised a ticket though as the speeds im getting at the moment are just over a 1mb on the speed tests, which is really poor seeing as normally I get 6500 because I chose to have interleaving put on. Dunno what else to do

First of all stop rebooting the router in case the exchange thinks your line is not stable. Changing centrals has no effect on your IP profile, you just need to leave the router alone for a few days and it should rise. Also, interleaving will reduce your maximum sync rate, it is the price to be paid for an extra bit of stability on longer lines. Post the results of a BT speedtest along with the attenuation, noise margin and sync rates from your router and we should be able to see where any problem might be.

Steve

Have you contacted support? Could be a stuck profile either at the exchange or at Enta's end. During peak periods your speed should typically be as fast as your line will allow, at least that's what I see.

my speed drop aswell during week end ..... from 830 to 150 . what's happening ?!?!!? adsl24 is victim of his sucess ???

Would seem that excessively slow weekend speeds are a problem for quite a few users including myself.

ADSL24 / Enta really need to sort this out very quickly. I fully realise more people are using the service at the weekends with the associated issues of increased load, but having my download speed cut by two thirds for 2 days a week is not acceptable.

I couldn't even stream News24 on the BBC site on Saturday night because my speed was so poor.

But come Monday morning, I'm back to 3290kbps. It's as if my speed's being capped at the weekends.

I'm can't get and am not bothered about getting 8MBor more all day every day. I just want my 3000kbps speed 7 days a week. It's not like 3000kbps is some sort of technological holy grail anymore.

well im downloading at 5.5meg speed with a profile of 6 meg so unless you can give more details such as line/router stats and or what your downloading and from where theres not a lot anyone can tell you really

not all speed issues are the fault of the ISP

Your moaning and getting speeds like that, feel for me stuck on 140/160kbs
According to ADSL24 that's normal.

How many times have you been rebooting your router?

There is also only a finite capacity at the local exchange, so if everyone on your exchange starts hammering it, something has to give, so not ADSL24's fault.

thanks for reply I have however raised a ticket now which is being processed, I done the BT speed test and although Im connecting at over 7000 its actually showing my speeds as 2500, I know I lose a bit from the interleaving which has been on for about 7 months now and the line isnt really a fair distance from the exchange but since a problem at the exchange last year when I was getting frequent disconnects, I decided to leave interleaving on. this new problem has only started since the end of last week. thanks again for your reply but hopefully it will be sorted through the ticket system :)

Although things returned to better than normal last night. . .I was getting 3200kbps after 10pm which is a miracle, my IP profile has now dropped like a brick overnight, going from 3500 to 2000. As a result, I'm now only getting 1600kbps.

I'm permanently now plugged in to my test socket, so there's no reason for the profile to have dropped unless the line has gone tits up.

Have raised a ticket to get it sorted. Is anyone else finding www.speedtester.bt.com has all changed? You now have to log on to the BT system through your router and then perform the test. I tried this as per the instructions, but nothing worked.

My router stats are here:

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB) 12.4 23.0
Attenuation (dB) 34.5 24.5
Output Power (dBm) 17.5 10.5
Attainable Rate (Kbps) 3308 1084
Rate (Kbps) 2816 448
K (number of bytes in DMT frame) 89 15
R (number of check bytes in RS code word) 12 4
S (RS code word size in DMT frame) 2.00 4.00
D (interleaver depth) 16 8
Delay (msec) 8.00 8.00
FEC 16 6
CRC 0 1
Total ES 0 1
Total SES 0 0
Total UAS 0 0

I found the Bt tester hit and miss to be honest with you took me four hours earlier to get a test done so it could be placed into the ticket!

Im also suffering from low speeds. I know i can get my full line rate as i have had brilliant download speeds in the past, my IP profile is 7150 and i can normally get 550-620Kb/sec now im getting 2mb or less. I raised the fault with BT as i thought it was related to my premises and now they have increased my SNR and turned interleaving on when im only 650m away from the exchange. My exchange isnt congested either so i dont understand whats going on. This is even in daytime on an uncongested central. I just hope BT havent messed my line up when it could actually be Entanets doing

Hi Jack,

This is most likely due to do with your phone line being physically cut last week,
hopefully its nothing more serious than a profile issue. Do a bt speed test to check what profile you currently have.

Your IP profile
[From a BT speedtest (http://speedtester.bt.com), include the speed test result]

:edit:
(I know you mentioned that it is 7150, but check it again in case it has dropped ;))
/:edit:

And maybe also post the following:

The line Sync speed
[As reported in the MaxReports section of 'My Account']

Router Sync speed / Line Attenuation / Line SNR margin
[If you don't know how to locate these details, you can look up your router here (http://www.dslzoneuk.net/adsl_line_stats.php)]

Should at least allow us to see what each end is sync'd at and if you have something odd like a Line Attenuation that is a lot higher than it should be
and what BT have increased the SNR margin to.

Good Luck :)

:edit:
Lol, have also just noticed that the OP hasn't responded to anything in the thread either. It has been totally hijacked :D

Thanks for the reply.

My router stats state:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 18.0 db 8.5 db
Noise Margin 10.2 db 24.0 db

Cannot use BT speedtester as i get the following error:

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/7682/bthq6.jpg

It still states 7150K profile

Dae
15/04/2008, 19:11
Hmm, that is strange ... as those stats are very good, although 18dB is a bit high if your only 650m from the exchange (but nothing to cause any major issue) as my Attenuation is 19dB and I'm 1.8km from the exchange. Not sure what to suggest  ... certainly there is no obvious line issue with those stats.

Is the throughput slow all of the time or just on particular days/times? [i.e. when the ALT is in effect]

As for the speedtest error, I get the exact same java exception when using firefox and it always stalls at 96% - and has done for quite a while. I have done testing previously but couldn't discover what was causing it, still works fine for other firefox users. Try using IE for the speedtest instead, that works for me.

Firefox for all other browsing tho ;)

Jack91
15/04/2008, 19:37
Ah yes it works with IE :D

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2159 kbps

As you can see still quite low. I have edited my fault i have open with BT and said its a speed issue and see if they can do anything.

Cheers.
