View Full Version : Leaving ADSL24
Sorry, not sure if this is the right section of the forum?
Just a quick question. I recieved my MAC code from ADSL24 very quickly and have passed that onto who will be my new ISP. Everything seems to going fine on their end and am due to be activated on the 7th May. But do I need to do anything else here? Do I need to "request cease" for the same day? Or will the ADSL24 connection cease on the day anyway?
Thanks by the way ADSl24 has been great, had no problems whatsoever just need something a bit faster.

Hi SWOS
As far as I am aware you shoulnt cease anything. The migration should just happen. If you cease that could cause problems and mean you may have to pay for a new installation!!!
'More speed'???
Thanks for the reply :)
Yep...more speed!
And more download quota

Has to be Be/O2 or Sky/UK Online I would guess
More speed and more download quota?
Hi SWOS,
I'm not an expert here by any stretch of the imagination but surely you're speed is governed by the quality of your line, connection points inside your property, a good modem/router..etc and the proximity of your telephone exchange regardless of who your ISP is and secondly your quota is governed by how much you want to spend?
M@rk......

As sjrooney suggests, if you go with a LLU provider then speeds are generally higher (most are offering up to 24 MB/s service) and prices lower and darta transfer limits generous.
Eg, the top Be package is £22 for unlimited downloads and 24 MB/s

But we know "unlimited" = FUP.
With ADSL24 you know what your allowed. IMHO thats why its good (at least as long as the usage stats are up) ;)
Ahh now I see..can't get BE at the moment near us, anyway I'm eligible for 21C in November which is up to 24 meg...
I'm sitting tight with ADSL24 for the foreseeable future as I've had no hassles, downtime and the like..a rather stark contrast to the the Orange mob and the call centers from hell and whilst on the subject of Hell, better the devil you know..;)

Yup, true enough. But perusing the Be related forums it's hard to find anyone who has been adversely affected by their FUP through downloading too much or been throttled in the way that virgin/Tiscali etc. are wont to do.

more download quota
Cant think of how anyone would need more than what you get here.im on the office package and i think 345 GB is a massive amount to get.
Good luck to you m8 if you can find any ISP that gives you more than this amount per month they say unlimited but they dont mean unlimited.
Unless of course your prepared to pay big money.
wow
not sure where all these posts came from!:p
i'm going with BeThere. I'm very close to my exchange and have very good line stats. So I thought it was worth a go. Ends up being £2 cheaper than the deal I was on with Adsl24
I'm an IT Tech and have been doing alot of VPN work, and having to download the occasional stupid large file from FTP. So lack of limits will help. And I can't always do what I need to on the weekend or after 10pm.
And i've done my research(!) and i've not read of anyone being pulled up on Be for downloading too much.
See what happens I guess. If it doesn't work out can always come back
ADSL24 was great though, no problems whatsoever with the connection, and after BT was a breath of fresh air.
It's nice to be able to choose :)

Not trying to have a pop at you m8 if its cheaper for you to go with BE and you get better speeds i doubt many people would argue with that.
I like the idea of much better upload speeds that BE give but i cant get LLU so as long as i still get decent speeds here at ADSL24 i will stay.
If i could get BE id get the highest possible speeds as im very close to my exchange but i cant

I have sadly decided to go to O2 for £12.50 on 8Mb saving a not insignificant £7.50pm in the process. If I could get Virgin here then I would to save on the BT line rental as well, but I am just out of their area.
On a 4Mb line there is little point me going to 24Mb, and I rarely use the speed apart from the odd TV download.
I have a activation date of 7th October and my new month starts around 5th October. Now obviously I don't want to pay £20 for a month but what is the best way forward.
Can I cancel my DD, and then arrange to settle for the odd two days direct with Enta? or what
Also what happens to the email addresses? Are they killed on the day?
Thanks,

I's suggest speaking withEntanet billing directly, seeing as they handle all of it.
I migrated over to O2 last month - my migration date was about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks before the end of the billing month. I guess if you cancel the DD they'll have no option but to let you go and pay by another rmethod.
I just left it all to them to sort out, i was refunded the pro-rata amount for the month in mid spetember.
Have to say, very happy with O2 so far, I get about 13 kbps down and 1.7 up (if I could be bothered to sort out the mess of the internal wiring i'd probably get more) and as I was on the Office 45 product here I'm saving a significant wodge.
And I do like not bothering about usage limits, scheduling downloads etc.
Yer, I will also be waiting for my exchange to be unbundled, but until then I'll be sticking with ADSL24. O2/BE are offering a very good service for such little amounts of money on unbundled exchanges!
