After looking at the central pipes status on enta website just before 10pm tonight are on green and say 7.2mb (which is great) .But as soon as 10pm has gone they go orange and drop to about 2mb:confused: I know enta do slow the speeds down after 10pm when the pipes get overloaded. But if they are on green just before 10pm why do they cut our speeds:confused: . Surly everyone does not log on all at the same time:rolleyes: It looks to me if enta are cutting speeds to 2mb even if the pipes are ok:rolleyes:

Nearly 12.30 am Paul, and they are all well over 2Mbps

Telehouse Central 1 = http://noc.enta.net/wp-content/plugins/widgets/pipestatus/Amber.png
Expected performance 3.6Mbps

Global Switch Central 1 = http://noc.enta.net/wp-content/plugins/widgets/pipestatus/Green.png
Expected performance 4.1Mbps

Telehouse Central 2 = http://noc.enta.net/wp-content/plugins/widgets/pipestatus/Green.png
Expected performance 3.9Mbps

Global Switch Central 2 = http://noc.enta.net/wp-content/plugins/widgets/pipestatus/Not-live.png
Expected performance 7.2Mbps

Telehouse Central 3 = http://noc.enta.net/wp-content/plugins/widgets/pipestatus/Not-live.png
Expected performance 7.2Mbps

The problem is everyone starts downloading as soon as the off peak period starts. It would be better if they scheduled their downloads for the early hours of the morning, but it's a near impossible task to educate them to do this.

I thought it was this puter, could do with a good clean inside amongst other things. I cant even get 1mb download here at best and have noticed a severe drop in performance after 10pm, many a time thought dial up was quicker especially last night.

Things will improve once the 4th central goes live.

It shouldn't be as bad as you are reporting. Most users have top speeds, and good speeds even at really busy peak times. We rarely get support tickets for slow speeds. And when we do, most of them are to do with a stuck BT profile!

However as Tim says, there will be even more capacity available to customers on the new pipe goes live shortly :D

Just tried three other sites, cant even open a page without timing out, usually takes 1/2 to 1 second with a 512 connection. No flickering light on modem just stationary, well almost.
Just done a test and ok ish bearing no resemblance to what actually happens. I know you dont recommend this one but wanted to get at something quick. http://www.speedguide.net/speedtest/results_img.php?test=9IASL2216B9V[/IMG]
Cant do anything except on this site.

It stated my connection was 40% of other Entanet users. Seems i get the brunt of it when it slows down 1mb down to zilch.
Can you check into my connection James, i am 5.5 to 6km from the CMTET exchange so dont expect a lot.

Can you keep trying to get a result from http://speedtester.bt.com ? With that we can see what your line is set at.

Also, sometimes simply rebooting your router will cause you to connect to a faster gateway/central - one that isn't as busy :)

P.S. You may be better off on a fixed 1Mb speed connection as your line seems to be losing sync quite often and reconnecting between 500 and 1400 Kbps. This could be causing your profile to be set at 512k on BT's system.

I have a longer line than you if you are quoting cable length and not as the crow flies but when things are working OK I usually have a profile of 1,000kbps.

As the crow flies, about 3km, but the cabling was laid near on 30 years ago and goes the long way round. 1mb profile.
Somethings strangling the connection speed somewhere and not showing up in the tests.
Just getting some info for James over the next few days.
