This has been happening since the day I migrated to ADSL24. Two or three times a day I will lose all web browsing. Downloads and email are fine but can't access any web sites until I reboot the router. Just happened again about 20 minutes ago.

I have tried a different router but that makes no difference. Also tried different MTU settings to no avail.

Anyone got an idea why this is happening ? It's starting to become really annoying.

Sounds like the DNS settings in your os. What DNS have you set to resolve to?

before changing routers and filters and other hardware id try another browser such as firefox (assuming you havnt already)

DNS at the moment is :
195.74.102.146
195.74.102.147

And yes I am using Firefox. Wouldn't use anything else :)

Just lost browsing again :( This is getting really tiresome.

I'd like to make it clear. I have NEVER had this through any other ISP. I have of course lost connections before, but that was everything. This is just browsing. Email, downloads and online gaming continue uninterrupted.

I tried other DNS settings before but that didn't help.

Twice in the last 30 minutes I have had to reboot the router. Getting really fed up with this.

Please look HERE (http://adsl24.co.uk/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=8&id=10&artlang=en) for settings. I would recommend leaving the setting to obtain automatically. Failing that try OpenDNS

Thanks. Just lost browsing yet again :( Will give Open DNS a try and see if there is any improvement.

You can also specify the local network address of the router as the DNS as most routers do DNS caching. e.g. if the internal router address is 192.168.0.1 then list this first and then list alternative addresses below this.

Thanks. Tried Open DNS but it became worse if anything. browsing dropped a number of times yesterday although as usual email and other traffic were not affected. Have just switched to the London DNS. If nothing works I'll try once again a new router but if that fails to cure the problem it wont leave me any option but to jump ship to a non Entanet ISP.

Don't happen to have a Netgear DG834 series router do you?

One of my friends suffered from something very similar to what you're describing. He has a relatively long line and occasionally his SNR would drop into the negative. The router would either hang on by the skin of it's teeth or it would resync, but for some reason it often resulted in web pages hanging at the "waiting for..." or "looking up..." stage. All other traffic carried on regardless. The only way he could fix this was by rebooting the router. In the end he changed to another brand and the problem disappeared.

No it's not a Netgear but I have heard the same thing. I have tried all the various alternate DNS settings but it just keeps happening. I will order a new router and see if that cures it. Anyone got any suggestions for a wireless router/modem? Has to have 4 Ethernet ports also.

Thanks

I'd recommend the Thomson TG585 v7 (http://www.thomson-broadband.co.uk/products/Details.asp?ProductID=544).

I've found my 2Wire 2700HGV syncs higher than my old Speedtouch 585v6. Both seem to hang on to the line OK.

When it goes, can you still connect on the ip address? and can you still ping the DNS name, and/or ping the ip address of google for example?
