Over the last 6 to 8 weeks I have suddenly suffered from multiple disconnections. I read just about every thread there is about possible causes and possible remedies - and now I am at my wit's end - please help.

History:
More or less exactly a year ago the same thing happened, disconnections every 10 minutes or so, which was one of the main reasons I decided to leave Pipex and go to pastures new. After joining ADSL24 the connection was rock solid for days and days. About 2 months ago the loss of sync problems resurfaced.

My SNR has been pretty much the same: between 9db and 10.6db down and 9db up.
Line attenuation did not change at all : 25 down and 16 up

Yesterday I replaced my Netgear 834GT with the ADSL24 Speedtouch TG585 and I also replaced the filters.
Result:

Since I have started writing this, I lost sync twice.

I have tried everything I can think of - apart from: I cannot connect the router to the test socket because my master socket is in the attic above the extension and unless you have the size and agility of a ferret you can't get to that space....

I would not mind (that much) if I had to sacrifice speed in order to get a stable connection. Is there any way?

Someone please?

Alisis (with bald spot after much tearing out of hair)

I know this is a step down in speed but have you considered the 2mb fixed line speed, that is a more stable connection, on the other hand why should you have to do this, my internet connection is playing up a long with a lot of other peoples, I think its to much of a conisedince for people to say all the time, its ur extension or Master socket or filters, im sick of the same old excuses. maybe ADSL24 are not to blame , but someone sure is and its probably BT but its not good enough.

I am sure it's BT and the age/condition of the lines and/or competence of their employees.
Changing to 2MB fixed speed - hmm, would not be too happy about that. Especially since it seems to be more expensive. And I don't need unlimited download. I hardly scratch the surface of my present quota.

Maybe I have to bite the bullet and get BT to relocate the master socket to a more accessible location and ask them to check/repair the line at the same time.

The disconnections you describe normally happen due to electrical interference in the house, or due to a fault on your line. Can you identify something that is happening at the times the router looses sync? Perhaps the boiler lighting up?

You will have to connect the router to the BT test socket. This is what BT would do if they came out to look at the fault anyway. I know it will be inconvenient - but it is better than being charged £188 because the engineer deduces that the fault is your side of things.

I would also try using a good quality cable (like http://www.choiceful.com/disprod.php?pId=5816&deptId=E1) as this uses CAT5 cabling which is far superior to normal telephone cables.

Alternatively you could ask BT to move your master socket (this will be chargeable).

Beta, I have been monitoring this for2 months and there is no common denominator that would suggest electrical interference. Apart from that it happens in the summer and not in the winter..... Copper expanding?

I had a look at this link - 5 mtrs isn't long enough but I found another cable 10mtrs long on the same website. http://www.choiceful.com/choiceful-id-68995-Broadband-Modem-Lead-10Mtr.html
As I know absolutely nothing about all this, could you please tell me if that would be OK?

That should be fine.

Connecting your router to the test socket is the only way of eliminating your internal wiring as being the cause of the issue.

Yeah - that's exactly the same quality as the 5 mtr one.

I found that this virtually (but not totally) eliminates interference - at least from household appliances.

thank you, have ordered it.

Better start a crash diet now so I can get through the gap between the rafters in the attic :D

That's OK - let us know how you get on (with the broadband - not the diet!)

Oh I will, Beta!
I would be totally lost without you all. :):):)
