I'm at a loss here, so thought I'd post and see if any of you are experiencing anything similar or have any ideas that I have not yet tried.

For the 10 months that I have been a member of ADSL24, I have always been able to download from Giganews/P2P etc. at a solid 810kB/s provided the centrals are showing as 7.2 and green. A few days ago I noticed that I could not download anything at over 650kB/s.

My line did not lose connection during this time.

I am still connected at 8128/832 as I have been since the day I joined. My IP profile is still 7150. My SNR is stable at 12.7 during the morning and 10.4 in the evening - this is also the same as it's always been.

I tried rebooting the router. I've tried a new router, filter and been connected to the test socket - all of this has made no difference whatsoever.

My exchange is listed as green and currently has no contention issues.

I can easily cope with 650kB/s, but I'm a perfectionist and not knowing WHY it's happened is driving me nuts. Any ideas?

I presume you are connected via ethernet and not wireless. We've had occasions when the exchange is indeed overcontended even if a third-party site says there is no problem as it often takes BT a while to push any updates out (wonder why!)

Do your Max reports in the My account page show the bottom profile is 7150 also?

Also, is your upload speed affected, and have you tried a different MTU (1400 or 1500) and then if all else fails a different PC?

Yes, I'm connected via Ethernet - I should have mentioned that. Apologies. The last change in 'Max Reports' was when I turned interleaving off in November, it's been listed as 7150 ever since. My upload speed is also exactly the same as it's always been - around 88kB/s.

I have to admit that I have not tried a different MTU, but it's always been set on 1478 and it's always ran around 810kB/s. I have 2 PCs and a laptop and they all max out at the same 650kB/s.

Like I said, I can cope with 650kB/s easily, so I'm not that bothered, it's the not knowing why it's happened that keeps making my brain hurt :)

I'll just treat it like it's 'one of those things' and hope that it eventually sorts itself out.
