View Full Version : Outlook Express 6
Hi
I have tried the:
Cpanel
Mail Account Maintenance
Configure Outlook
It does not do anything automatically, only brings up a text regedit file. :(
I have Outlook Express 6 on my PCs running Windows XP Pro.
Manual configuration works. :D
Should it run a script to make changes automatically?
Hi Mon_Di
If you go to the ADSL24 homepage, then look under support, there are some good video tutorials that will help.
I think the one you want is the POP mail one, have a look, it will set it up for you automatically.
Good luck ;)
Sometimes it works and sometimes the automatic link does not.
I have always used the manual meathod.
regards,
Thx for the prompt replies.
This is not meant as a dis of the service. Just an observation.
Manual configuration method works but setting up can be confusing if you are not used to setting up programs.
As an ex AOL user everything is set up for you, more or less, so that you just get on with using your ADSL without thinking about the technical side of things.
My wife uses the PC for various surfing but she failed to set up Email and was disapointed that an automatic link failed. If the link worked then 100% satisfaction.
P.S. dont tell my Mrs that I grassed on her or I will be in deep trouble ! LOL.
Aol are a multi million pound company and we adsl24 are a drop in the pong compaired to them.
We dont have to supply free hosting, email or support and just pass everyone to Entanets 0870 number.
We dont make anything from the adsl and in fact we run at a loss. It costs me more to provide these services, return calls and the 0800 than what I get from each members account every month, which as you know I dont hold back and tell everyone the facts.
We make £1.01 from everyone each month, so you work out the maths.
Regards,
Hi MON_Di
I sympathise m8 ..honest. I have trouble logging in to this forum :( (joke)
Its a shame the automatic set-up won't work with you, I had no probs. Maybe you just have to keep trying.
Wait till you try to transfer a website :D (another joke)..my weakness.
I'm sure persistance will pay off. You will find you have more control and more options here, its just a case of finding your feet. Just follow the video tutorials.

I assume you mean "a drop in the pond" there Brian (unless the wind is blowing in the wrong direction from Port Talbot of course ;)).
I don't think MON_Di was being over critical, just saying that it would be nice if the automatic configuration worked, as some people do find things like setting up Outlook Express confusing.

Hi Brian,
As a matter of interest, if you're not making money from providing ADSL, why do you bother doing it (not that we want you to stop of course)?
Good answer Brian. Refreshing honesty.
But i didnt want to make a stink! Or a pong! LOL.
No dont stop yet as I`ve only just joined up. DOH.
Its OK Robbie I set up without the auto configure. Thx for the advice. It could help other new joiners.
Hi MON_Di
Welcome to ADSL24:D
Have you looked at setting up your email using your Enternet account. You may find this easier to setup with Outlook. You need to use the details supplied by Brian to Log in and configure how many addresses you require.
Cliff:)
Pong Ummmmm I mean POND! :)
Owe well, it shows Im human after all.
Regards,
Am I right in assuming users get both Enta and Adsl24 email accounts? Apologies if this is covered elsewhere (my excuse is I can't read ;)).
Ircsum.
Correct, Entanet provide there own single email address but we provide our own unlimited emails controlled via cPanel.
cPanel is harder to setup and use, but once your used to it its as easy as writing :)
Regards,
Thanks for the speedy response.
BTW, did I mention that I can't write either? :p

Regards,
Enternet provide the option to expand Email address by 99....eg:
rod@username .entadsl.com
jayne@username .entadsl.com
freddy@username .entadsl.com
BUT..Theres always a "but".It does not have spamcontrol. This option is avaliable with CPanel...BOTH do NOT have VIRUS protection control. that's down to us on our PC.
I think this is a great option to have ...So many Choices:D
Our servers have visus software built in and is updated daily. We are in the process of installing virus software that will monitor all emails and attachments.
Regards,
I see that you have added Clam AV virus protection and a few other applications:D
Thanks.
Will the virus scan automatically everything that is sent to our mail accounts. I see we have the option to independently scan our files.
Cliff:)
Correct, added this last night to the servers, hope it helps.
Regards,
Thanks for the additional info, cliff. Nice to see the protection being beefed up too, though I naturally scan all email at local level too. The more layers of protection the better, imo.

For anyone who's having difficulty using cPanel, there are some good tutorials available from http://www.adsl24.co.uk/support.html, and there's also a user manual at http://www.cpanel.net/docs/cpanel/.
