Hi, am currently with Zen and have been really pleased with them. Just beginning to feel that I am paying too much for 512Kbps at £25 a month and am considering switching to ADSL24's 30/300 Max account. Wondering whether ADSL24 support Apple Macs as we have a powerbook and a mac mini here.

I was also wondering whether my Netgear DG834G v2 router would support ADSL MAX. I have recently updated it to the latest firmware.

Also, is MAX a real hassle to set up? Would I be better off sticking to standard services up to 2Mb, or will MAX be faster than those even at its slowest?

Is Tech Support for ADSL24 good? Also wondering how far bandwidth usage stats go back, is it possible to see what you are averaging a month over the whole year?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

We support all PC's/OS's unlike *most* ISP's I guess. We admit we are not the *best* with MAC's, but if you have any problem with your modem/router/config we will happily help you regardless of what your PC/Mac runs :)

The DG834G v3 will easily cope with 8Mb Max :)

Whether or not you opt for the fixed 2Mb is up to you, but in some cases, 2Mb fixed speed offers much more stability and lack of profile issues for your line. Remeber even on Max some line's are too far from the exchange to see the benefits and could actually end up seeing slower speeds than a normal fixed speed connection.

If you let us know your phone number (PM me) I can check to see the estimate BT gives you for your line.

If you opt for Max, the first 10 days after you go live are called a "training period". During this period, the BT systems monitor your line to determine the best speed/stability ratio it can support. Again, all lines are unique and there is no way of knowing exactlywhat your line will handle until you are actually on Max :)

Usage history at the moment is for the current month, but in this coming week I am working on making the past 12 months history (for all customers) available.

Hope this helps.

Hey there James, bit of a question: (don't mean to hijack the thread, but wanted to verify something) if you're migrating from another ISP to adsl24, (and were previously a max customer) will BT retrain your line, or do you have to request this?

And yes, I'd likely request this if I were to switch (last time BT trained my line I wasn't plugged into the master socket, so got a slower rate than I should have. Of course with my current ISP I have yet to see even that slower rate, but hope springs eternal :)

Cheers

Normally there is no re-train, but some lines do end up on the process again. We have no control or say over this, so we can't tell BT to re-train the line as they don't want to know (grr).

But, as long as your problems are fixed now, you should not have to re-train, as your profile should catch up to your router sync rate.

Good to hear (and I hope you're right :) ) Last time I was able to access BT's speed test (unable to do so from my current gateway apparently) my profile was set to 6.5Mb, and with my tweaking the jack, I currently sync at 7776/832, with a max attainable stat of 8480/1336. Once I get a BT extension cord those numbers will go up a bit more, if memory serves I should get a bit above 9000 on the receive side. Which, while I'll never (well, quite a few years anyways) get that sort of rate from BT, it's nice for my peace of mind ;-)

Thanks James.

Yep. Max speed on 8Mb is 8128 which gives you a 7150 profile normally :)
