my has been a very stable 5120 for a long time untill about 3 weeks ago when it synced to 6816, i checked this info in the sync speed part of my account. my i profile was 4500, then 6000. however today it has synced at 1400 and just run really slow. nothing has changed on my setup and i have tested all the norms (cables filters modem etc) i have a netgear router and these are the current stats
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1408 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 23 db 4.5 db
Noise Margin 3 db 9 db
should i just wait and see what happens or should i raise a ticket? thanks for any help i really cant stand going this slow :(

There are various things to try first:-

Plug your router into the BT master socket (this eliminates your own internal wiring)
Try other filters (oh - you've already done this!)
Borrow/steal or swipe another router - just to rule this out as wellYour line attenuation looks v. good - you should be getting much higher syncs than you are at the moment.

If you use your phone, can you hear any noise on the line? You could try using the quiet test facility to double-check (Dial 17070, press option 2 (quiet line test)). If you can hear noise, then unplug your router. Can you still hear noise?

If the answer is yes, then log this as a normal BT fault (150) saying you have noise on the line. If the answer is no, then log it with ADSL24/Enta.

Can you plug the router directly in the BT test socket with a different filter and re-post me the line stats?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1280 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 22 db 4.5 db
Noise Margin 2 db 10 db
thats from direct into the test socket

ok forgot to mention i have tried my old belkin router too with much the same result. also the quite line test was fine i heard absolutely no noise at all. maybe it could be because the lines that run from the pole to my house are 23years old?

any other ideas?

another update (sorry if its getting annoying lol) i called bt and they ran some tests on the line and they said the line is fine. i have checked the master socket and see that only the 2 wires are connected so no bell wire to worry about. i have tried different filters, different routers, different cables and the quiet line test all with no effect. connecting the router directly via the master test socket made no improvement either. my friend who lives just down the road and a little further away from the exchange is having no troubles at all and has always had a better sync speed than i have. this problem was very sudden too the sync light on the router flashed and that was it i was dropped down to aprox 1400. my speed profile says i should be on 6000.

Looks like a line fault. I would suggest you open a ticket with ADSL24.

is there any way to get someone out to check the external line condition without having to pay thru the nose for it?

If it's a fault outside of your property, BT shouldn't make a charge for fixing it.

But make sure you reiterate to the engineer that you have eliminated your wiring and equipment from the equation...

heh its getting pretty ridiculous here. i called bt about the line going dead and they suggested that i ring them when the line is dead so they can run a test. problem is it only stays dead for maybe 2 minutes at most. try getting thru the automated system that fast lol. basically bt refuse to admit any fault at all with the line :( so im stuck waiting it out. if it doesnt get any better im gonna get a new phone line installed and just get the old one cut off

wont that cost you lots of money mate? Unless bt admit there is a problem with the line. im almost certain my telephone line is bust and i need a new one :(

i think i might be able to get a new line installed complete with new number quite cheap, then all i have to do is cancel the old line after a month. hopefully with a new line and a new number the problems will go away

Did you have any powercuts before it all went wrong?

my only option left is an engineer visit which might not find the fault and end up costing me £188 ive decided to just cancel my internet connection :( thanks for all the suggestions.

as a last effort is it possible to get bt to re-train the line?
