Forgive me if this question has been asked before, I had a quick browse on the forum, couldn't see it.

I am student and am moving into a new house in July. It looks like we'll probably be going with ADSL24, but I am curious -

The people who are currently in the house now broadband, (No idea who with, I only know they have broadband because they told us when we went to look round.) does this mean I would have to get a mac code from somewhere, or would I just register with you as a new boradband user and pay that 50-something pounds to BT?

I know this wont be relevant for a few months yet, just wanting to get questions answered as early as possible.

Thanks for your time.

As far as I'm aware it would be down to the current people to inform their ISP that they are moving and request a cease to be put on the line, thus leaving it clear for you to sign up to a new provider.

You might also want to check whether they are on an LLU connection at present too, as this will incur you further costs when signing up to a non-LLU provider.

The best thing to do is find out who the current ISP provider is then obtain a MAC CODE then you could migrate free,

I'm not sure if that would work as when you change the name on the BT bill it will usually cease any ADSL on the line (or at least used to). Therefore if the line is not in your name, the ADSL order won't go through (BT's rules not ours...)

The clearest answer is to get the current owner to ring up and cancel his ADSL with his current ISP ASAP as it may take up to two weeks for them to clear the line after cancellation.
