I joined ADSL24 on wednesday there, migrating early from contract from my previous excuse of an ISP called "Tiscali" or as liked to call them "Piscali" lol
I know there is a 10 day period where my connection will be erratic, so far ive been able to use msn
Its like a MIRACLE!!!
Anyway thus far im getting 300kb dl speeds im happy with, however i feel i could possibly get a further 50kb but i think i have my hardware setup wrong..
I have a 10m shielded RJ45 cable from the filter in the wall, connected to a Netgear DM111P modem, ethernetted to Netgear WPN824 (Rev. 1) wireless router.
I have my families desktop wired to that and my sons laptop via wireless.
My son wasplaying games this evening and pings where damn good under 100!!
However he is suffereing a few disconnections, cant say for the desktop as its not used near half as much..I am unsure if its settngs in my hardware or of its the ten day setteling period. Could someone verify where my problem may lie?
I am 2 miles (1 as the crow flies) from my exchange in Mountfield, Northern Ireland if this is of any use, any help is appreciated :)
Welcome to ADSL24 jcoyle 187 when I went through the 10 day training period I had frequent disconnections I believe this is normal, I have no doubt that forum members will be along to advise you further.
yorkie.
Yep, as Yorkie says, in the first 10 days your speed will be slower than normal as BT's systems cap your line until it finds the best speed it can support. Also disconnections can occur :)

I have had a few disconnection whilst in the training period not quite sure why. I also found my profile dropped simply by plugging in a different router which must have lowered the synch rate.

Hmm ok thanks for the info guys.
I do still however feel my modem/router may be setup wronh but i'll wait until after the ten days just to see if its the setteling period or not. Love it so far thought, downloading at 300kbps easy, brillaint considering i was to get no more than 2meg speeds of 250 :)

Ive been looking into my account the last few days and the line rate is varying
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/FDC/ADSL24-1.png
I would like if it stayed at the 3000+ one :)
Oh yes ive seen others here are talking about interleaved being off is that possible for me?
I am about 1.5 - 2 miles from the exchange..
If theres any other details you need to know ask and ill try to find them so you can help me more ;)
BTW I LOVE ADSL24!!!!!
Best ISP to date ive been with hands down, continue the great works people :)
EDIT:
I notice a thing called "broadcast address", and the next one "router address" (I have a block of 8 staic IP's). What do these things mean?
I have a modem -> Etherneted to Router setup if thats any help..However mode is used in RFC bridging hence router does all the connecting to the internet, modem is like a ADSL line to ethernet dongle then pretty much lol
Line rate is bound to vary as longer lines always connect to the exchange at different rates nearly each time. I's only good lines that keep a stable rate. I can turn off Interleaving if you like...
James
is this the same for router sync, mine sync's at about 2336, but when i had max with tiscali i got a sync of at least 4150 or something, only went live with you yesterday
It will vary... line condtions fluctuate minute by minute and it has no bearing on the ISP what speed to the exchange you get :)

James i went live on the 4th April, can i assume that i'm still on the 10 day training period ? I've had no disconnection or changes in my 7150 profile since i joined also my daytime download speeds are in the region of 6.8Meg. In my account there is no data in the "Max Reports" section does this only change when your sync speed and/or profile changes..
Stew
The Max reports only change if you have fluctuations in your line of over 512k at a time :)
You are still in the 10 day period yes :)

Thanks again James...:)
6.8Meg nice speed that Stew,

Thanks for the prompt reply James
Just out of curiosity what difference would this interleaving make to me?
Speed things up or cause errors?
I see others talking about it but even though I Wikipedia'd and Googled it but still I dont really understand the difference of on or off..
@antfeay
I left Piscali for here and thus far im happy, i was paying for 8meg MAX and i was lucky to get 2meg..They traffic shape, port throttle and everything, they suck and I'm gonna tell everyone I know to avoid :)
If your line is connecting at over 6meg I'd reccommend you go on the normal FAST mode rather than Interleaved :)

Interleaving is explained here (http://www.dslzoneuk.net/adslmax_explained.php).

Right ok I get what it does but would there be any advantage if it was turned off for my line then?
Today I was able to download at a speed of 400kbps on the speedtest.net website :)
3800+ was showing for DL bandwidth and im quite happy with that

My line rate has dropped to 2000kbps :(
Is that router SYNC rate or Profile rate? Can you post both?
James

It doesnt show in the router the sync rate i did a few speed tests from www.speedtest.net all day. all showing under 2000kbps.
And I am having a lot of msn disconnections right now which is really bugging me, on a further note my router is picking up a strange IP its supposed to be the static one you guys sent me in a block of 8 but its not...
What I meant is, in your router there will be a status page showing the Data rate/ Connection speed and the attenuation/SNR (noise margin) figures. Also run a test at http://speedtester.bt.com as the other ones are not suitable to log with BT. They insist everyone uses their own speedtesr.

It doesnt show this data on the router, as said I have a netgear WPN824 router etherneted to a netgear DM111 modem.
The modem would have these statistics but i am unable to access it as its setup in RPC bridge mode.
Test result:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 3232 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1782 kbps
If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.
If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.
Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.
Yeah. At least we know the sync rate (3232). Your profile rise wise to 2500 soon and you'll get up to 2500 kbps again...

Its been stuck at 2000 since about the 15th or so >.<
Rebooted the router and modem again and it still showing the same results
Anyway I have another problem, I am unable to view the useage for this moenth i get an error about xml but now I see the error is about your reseller Entanet having problems so I guess its notthing really to do with ou guys, just wanted to know how much peak % I go left or in GB.
Usage is a known issue. Check the status page: http://adsl24.blogspot.com

Not too worried about this issue, more concered with my speeds to be quite honest, dropping below 2meg...this happened at Tiscali my previous (excuse of an...) ISP.
They suck, I dont want here to turn into the same please!
It won't, but if the IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps you will never get above that no matter what ISP! It's not us capping you at 2000, it's BT. I have logged afault for you now.
Thanks

If this interleaving thing was turned off would it help me in any form?
I am getting a lot of msn disconnections too lately, its becoming quite annoying.
PineappleJack
22/04/2007, 16:18
I was getting disconnections for about three weeks so it's not always 10 days before you are OK.
I have a long line.
Interleaving only really helps when you have a high ping and want a lower ping, but it's usually best to leave it on as it helps stop the connection dropping altogether.
It can be turned off if you wish, but your ultimate problem is that if your connection to the exchange is only 3232 kbps, you will never get above 2500 on any ISP as the 2500 is what BT profile you will be on...
Your last SYNC today was 2848 which means you will be back on the 2000 profile...
Have you made sure all your wiring/setup is correct? www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php

Yup opened all three ports in the house, all wired correctly and yes I am indeed usig the main socket in the house for the ADSL :)
I got 2300 on the speedtest.net after rebooting the router though so there maybe was some little problem with one of the ports maybe or else im just reconnecting at a better time.
Just did a bt speedtest there now and im getting a better rating:

Maybe i just helped one of the wires back into place or something
It seems better atm, I will give a report when i next can.
Seems so far as if your idea helped James, Thank you very much sir.
Excellent - looking good
