View Full Version : Downgrading graphics card problems
Hi All,
I'm downgrading my graphics card from an Nvidia 6600GT (with noisy fan) to a 6200 (silent - no fan). I've installed the latest nvidia drivers (175.19). Only trouble is, after putting the new card in, Windows starts loading - I get to see the desktop and icons and taskbar and after a few seconds the screen locks or goes black, so I have to re-boot.
Any idea what might be the problem? The driver would be the same for both cards. Any thoughts on how I can fix it?
Many thanks,
Izaac
Hmm odd
Did you try reinstalling the drivers?
Try it this way:
Download driver sweeper (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655)
Uninstall current from add\remove programs under control panel
Reboot> F8> safe mode
Run driver sweeper (clean out nvidea drivers)
Reboot
Reinstall driver package.
All I can think of at the mo, GL!
Thanks - I will try later - found some references where people have had problems with 6200s and 175.19, so I will uninstall and revert to old driver after using driver sweep and see how it goes.
Thanks for your help

don't forget to try
http://www.omegadrivers.net/
Their drivers solved some problems of mine.
I hadn't heard of Omega Drivers but I will give them a go. Ta.
Aye Omega gets my vote!!
Running z-tweaked atm tho, could try out NGO drivers (http://www.ngohq.com/) too, all trial & error i guess.

I installed the Omega drivers tonight and aside from brief black screens at times, they seem to be working ok. Thanks for your help.

If your still getting the blank screens, I don't think the drivers are completley at fault.
If you look further down the hardware area, I had this problem, part of it was heat, I am awaiting a new tower today to try and solve this. It could be a heat prob for you to!
I don't think so as I run Speedfan and it shows the GPU as never getting over 50 degrees, which I would have thought was quite acceptable.
