Hello guys,

Today just after installing new OS i started to download an Update, Im on 8mbps*, My download screen popped up on firefox started downloading, However it seems to start at 1.4mb/s go upto 1.5mb/s for around 3 seconds then drop.

However in my town they say they can only hit 4.8-6.8mbps however i somtimes can hit 800kbps at the start of a download.

Why is this that i cannot get full speed yet i start downloads at somtimes 1.5mb/s *Rare about the 5th time* and mostly 800kbps+ then it drops to half that :s

When you say you're on 800mbps I'll assume you mean 8mbit, and the 4.8-6.8mbps should be 4.8-6.8mbit.

Anyway the answer to your question is, you're not really getting 1.5mb/s then it's dropping, the program that is reporting the speed is just calculating it poorly at the start (when it has very little data to calculate the average from), then as it gets more data the calculated speed becomes more accurate. Calculating the rate at which you are downloading is tricky, and some programs do it a lot better than others.
