Well...for me anyway. Bit of a shaggy dog story. I've not posted for a while because my service has been superb...steady 6mb plus download speed pretty much all the time. then.....
Someone stole 200 yards of underground BT cable from my village by lifting two manhole covers , cutting the cable and winching it up onto a big reel on the back of a lorry. This was done in the early hours of the morning and the few people that heard and saw it thought it was BT due to the white van and lorry. Worth about £4k in scrap apparently....
Anyways...350 households and small firms lost everything. Two weeks later I get my phone back and then broadband. But I have been experiencing all sorts of speed and connection issues since. The first two were reported and fixed by BT who said it was a poor wiring joint/connection on my line. Fair enough. But I keep getting disconnects..one this afternoon for no apparent reason. I used to have solid connections for days if not weeks on end. Below are my stats right now with my normal download figures in brackets. I was always getting 6-7mbs all the time..
My noise margin keeps going up...then back down along with my connection speed of course...somethings going on and if BT are adjusting my profile to take into account the number of disconnections then they should bloody well fix the line first.
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5376 kbps (8213) 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 db (32) 18.5 db
Noise Margin 18.6 db (12) 20.0 db
I've raised a ticket and await feedback from ADSL24 but its getting very frustrating. I have just ordered the new Linksys 160N ADSL+ router as my trusty Netgear 834GT is now 4 years old. I don't think its the router causing the problem of course but an upgrade can't do any harm. I note a few people here are currently having connection issues and of course the BT/cable fiasco is probably at the heart of mine.......I hope...sort of.....
