I'm currently tearing my hair out trying to solve a problem I have with installing Java and wondered if anyone here might be able to shed any light on it please. Having done a bit of googling it seems that this is quite a common problem, but I haven't yet been able to find a fix for it!
The error message I'm getting is:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11 Installation
Internal Error 2755. 1624,
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/GetFile/1.5.0_11-b03/windows-i586//jre1.5.0_11-iftw.msi (http://www.adsl24.co.uk/forum/redirector.php?url=%68%74%74%70%3a%2f%2f%6a%61%76% 61%64%6c%2e%73%75%6e%2e%63%6f%6d%2f%77%65%62%61%70 %70%73%2f%64%6f%77%6e%6c%6f%61%64%2f%47%65%74%46%6 9%6c%65%2f%31%2e%35%2e%30%5f%31%31%2d%62%30%33%2f% 77%69%6e%64%6f%77%73%2d%69%35%38%36%2f%2f%6a%72%65 %31%2e%35%2e%30%5f%31%31%2d%69%66%74%77%2e%6d%73%6 9)
I've checked out the error codes on the java site (http://www.adsl24.co.uk/forum/redirector.php?url=%68%74%74%70%3a%2f%2f%77%77%77% 2e%6a%61%76%61%2e%63%6f%6d%2f%65%6e%2f%64%6f%77%6e %6c%6f%61%64%2f%68%65%6c%70%2f%64%6f%77%6e%6c%6f%6 1%64%5f%65%72%72%6f%72%5f%63%6f%64%65%73%2e%78%6d% 6c) and followed instructions to download offline, but that only installed the Java Web Start programme, and not the J2RE application.
I've also tried running the Windows Installer Package (jre1.5.0_11-b03) and got an error message saying ja150000.cab file is missing!
Help!!! :o
I couldn't install it for love nor money for the thinkbroadband speedtest in Internet Explorer or Firefox, I solved it by downloading java then installing it separately,

Try manual download (http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
instructions (http://java.com/en/download/help/5000010300.xml)
(Try Manual Download Instructions)
That's the way I did it Cliff I used the Windows offline installation download which saves the application to disc then insalled it.

Did you create a widow restore point, then do the following:
Reinstalling Java
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on > add/remove programs.
• Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... ) It should have a coffee cup icon next to it:
Select it and click Remove.
Then restart computer.
Then install newest version of java.
Cliff:)

Windows created a restore point, there wasn't a java version to uninstall I had tried to install it through the thinkbroadband speedtest (you have to have java installed to run it) but as I previously stated it would not install using either Internet Explorer or Firefox, the only way I could install it was by using the manual Java Windows Offline Installation Download saving it to the hard drive then installing java from the downloaded application.

Thanks for the advice guys, have tried all the above but unfortunately this has turned into a bit of a saga lol
There were underlying problems with the windows installer application and missing files from msiexe application, but having done a system file scan the pc is asking me for a copy of XP Pro disc 2, which I don't have and wasn't even aware there were two discs for it, but the OS installed on this machine is XP Media Edition, for which I only have a recovery disc :(
Anyway, at this present time I think I've sorted out some of the problems and everything seems to be working ok atm <touch wood> ... but I still can't install java no matter which way I try and do it
Hope you sort it SC.
yorkie.
Just sorted it for SC via RDP :)
