Question really
In my tcp/ip properties section under DNS server I have used the open references.
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
However in my speedtouch interface it shows the DNS i was given when i joined
195.74.113.58
195.74.113.62
How can this be right and is there a way to change them in my speedtouch as i cannot see how.
Do you think this may be causing an issue I will say it does not seem to be, just cant understand how they are different
Also is there anything in the tcp/ip section that i can input on my second computer to help my wireless issue with the poor signal:confused:
That's the way my DNS is set up....and it's fine.
What you set in TCP/IP properties is how your NIC will use DNS. The router is obviously set to get DNS automatically and it reports what it was given. However, you're actually using OpenDNS ones, not the ones showing in the router.
If you prefer to use the ones the router has picked up (and I wouldn't) then just point the TCP/IP DNS to 192.168.1.254.....that's the router addy and it will then use the router's acquired DNS servers.
Ircsum.

Thanks
another question:D
Why in the tcp/ip i have to set obtain my ip automatically if I try to put my ip in the gateway 255 255 255 0, Then default gateway as my router ip I cannot access the internet.
Am I doing something wrong and does it make a difference if I have auto or manual IP address??
Many thanks for hopefully a reply
BIG plus my throughput has risen to 3.5mb since i fitted the speedtouch

Because one of them is the setting on your PC and the other is the setting on your router. Each device that understands TCP/IP has its own DNS settings. As long as the servers are reachable then it's fine. The OpenDNS servers seem pretty good.

Yes it makes a difference and it's easy to get wrong which is why DHCP, the system whereby you get your IP information automatically, was developed. It makes no difference whether you have a manual or auto address as long as they're correct.
