View Full Version : Will email contacts be lost?

I am presently waiting for BT to transfer me over to adsl24 from Plusnet, whom I have been with for 3 years
I am not quite sure what to do about picking up emails that have been setup since being with them all this time
Obviously, I will try to contact as many as possible i.e. friends, family and other various contacts, but I was wondering if there was a way of getting emails diverted/re-routed to my account at adsl24?
Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks
Simon

This would require action on Plusnets part so is highly unlikely.
What SHOULD happen is that when Plusnet stop accepting your mail then the rejected mails go back to the sender with an undeliverable message so the sender will at least know their messages haven't been received.

Hi Paul
Thanks for your reply
Is there a way of making provision for this problem?
Thanks

If you use Gmail then you need never worry about losing emails or having to contact everyone whenever you change ISP's as it will stay with you wherever you go :)

Hi
I agree with you, but do not like the privacy policy; or lack of, of Gmail and other such providers, but then there are free as well
I will just have to make sure I inform as many as I can possibly remember!!
Thanks again
Simon
Plusnet said this when I migrated here 5 week ago:
"Your account will be downgraded to a free account, this will allow you access to your e-mail if you use it as you have previously. Your web space will still be there but will be reduced to 25mb." And at present I still have all my email mailboxes. My 25 MB of webspace works and I seem to have a pay-BT-only dialup account.
You could ask for confirmation on their forum or ask a question (Raise a ticket). I'd make the question pretty clear and only ask one at a time!

Hi
I have just done what you suggested and their reply was that I could have a dial account to access email
I really only want this in the short term in-order to catch email from people that I have not informed
I will though have to look into setting up a different system, especially for email
I do have a domain name for the charity I run, so perhaps I could use this and perhaps set up a forwarding facility to my inbox - I will need to phone a friend for guidance on the best course of action
Thanks again

Downgrade your Plusnet account to PAYG dialup. You don't have to ever use it but it will keep your e-mail address live and you will still be able to check it via Plusnet's webmail. This way you can reply to all e-mails you receive quoting your new e-mail address.

Thanks for all your suggestions
I will downgrade to PAYG dial up account, infact I have already requested this at plusnet
I do have a domain name with the charity I run and I wil look into setting up a forwarding to the adsl24 email account as well
Thanks again
Simon
All you need to do is let us know the domain name and we can tie that to your e-mail/webspace. You will need to change the nameservers to dns1.adsl24.co.uk and dns2.adsl24.co.uk - that's it :)
