Hello,

Ive heard about ADSL24 from the dslzoneuk.net forums and so far have been very impressed, impressed enough to be about to sign up (the support / community seems great which has really wowed me). However, ive first got a few questions that is appreciate if you could answer for me.

1. Which of the following is the ADSL24 control panel, there seems to be loadsa different control panels shown on their site? Im assuming one was upgraded to another, or maybe something to do with Entranet.

2 here: http://adsl24.co.uk/faq.php#24
1 here: http://www.adsl24.co.uk/myaccount_overview.php

Which (of 3) is it?

2. What happens if i go over my allowance? Am i charger per Gb? Is my contract suspended?

3. From http://adsl24.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=192 , i quote

"With effect from 1 March 2007, the off-peak period for MAX Premium Allowance will commence at 8pm (previously 10pm). The purpose of this move is to ensure that premium users benefit from the available spare capacity during the hours of 8pm - 10pm. The off-peak start time for MAX Allowance products will remain at 10pm."

Considering that i am looking at ADSL24 Home Max 30, does this affect me? When will my peak / off peak times be?

4. From the same thread, i quote

"We are pleased to advise that with effect from 1 March 2007 the cease notice period for Broadband connections will reduce from 30 days to 7 days"

Again, does this affect me?

5. How long does it typically take from giving ADSL24 my MAC code, to being transferred? Do i phone BT, get the MAC code and ADSL24 the MAC code and thats it, or do i have to cancel with BT and get a MAC code?

6. What sort of downtime is there between the switch?

phew!

Id really appreciate some answers to these questions.

Thanks. :)

Hi there!

Welcome to the forum and I'll try to answer your questions as best I can :)

1. Which of the following is the ADSL24 control panel, there seems to be loadsa different control panels shown on their site? Im assuming one was upgraded to another, or maybe something to do with Entranet.

2 here: http://adsl24.co.uk/faq.php#24
1 here: http://www.adsl24.co.uk/myaccount_overview.php

Which (of 3) is it?

They are all control panels available to you but each has a slightly different function. If you look at the menu bar at the top right hand side of this page you will notice several links ...

The first is "My Account" and is the second link you posted above, which details everything as subscribed in the overview on that page.

Two of the other links are "Hosting Control Panel" and "Billing Control Panel" and they are what you saw on the FAQ page in your first link above and are, I hope, fairly self explanatory. I know it's slightly confusing having two different accounts but the first is your account here with ADSL24 and the Billing Control Panel belongs to Entanet, as all invoices and monthly payments are made to them direct.

I hope I haven't confused you further! ;)

2. What happens if i go over my allowance? Am i charger per Gb? Is my contract suspended? No, your account won't be suspended. What happens is that you will pay a fixed £5+VAT admin fee and will then be upgraded to the next package allowance and charged the difference between the two packages, but this won't be billed until the following month. Obviously your usage limit will be adjusted to the maximum limits of the next package then.

When will my peak / off peak times be?Your peak times will remain unchanged on the Home MAX 30 package, and off-peak hours are 10pm - 8am weekdays and all day at the weekend. It is the premium Office packages that will start their off-peak hours at 8pm during the week.

4. From the same thread, i quote

"We are pleased to advise that with effect from 1 March 2007 the cease notice period for Broadband connections will reduce from 30 days to 7 days"

Again, does this affect me?Not unless you plan to leave ADSL24 after you've migrated to us ;)

5. How long does it typically take from giving ADSL24 my MAC code, to being transferred? Do i phone BT, get the MAC code and ADSL24 the MAC code and thats it, or do i have to cancel with BT and get a MAC code? You need to get your MAC from BT (assuming this is your current ISP?) and then give it to ADSL24 when you sign up to migrate and they will do the rest for you. I think current migration times are 7-10 days but I'm sure James or Paul will correct me if it's any different.

6. What sort of downtime is there between the switch? There should be no downtime at all and you should remain connected to your current ISP until migration has taken place, and on occassions you may even be able to connect to both for a few days.

When your order has been accepted and ADSL24 receive a confirmed activation date you will receive an email containing all your login details and it will be just a case of changing the login and password in your modem/router on the day of activation (can occur at any time during the day) and away you go! :D

I hope I've managed to answer all your questions satisfactorily, but please feel free to ask more questions if there's anything you're unsure of.

The links just lead to the Frequently Asked Questions page.
And are not the users control panel.

The first link is for Entanet you can check your usage
Statements, network status, and a few other bits and bobs
https://billing.enta.net/

The adsl24 control panel allows you access to all sorts email, usage, web space
https://adsl24.co.uk/myaccount.php

If you exceed your allowance your billed 5 pound admin fee plus your upgraded
To the next packaged for the remainder of that month.

It’s now compulsory to supply a Mac within 5 working days all isp abide by this rule
now

5 to 10 working days I fink

There should be no down time in fact you should be able to connect to both
Providers for a few hours on the day of activation

much the same as surfer_chick.... said lol

Surfer chick beat be to it. But just to clarify - do NOT cancel with BT until after you've signed up with us and been e-mailed an activation date. Otherwise, BT may put a cease on the line which stops the line from being migrated.

Wow thanks for the great responses!

Im pretty much happy now, though id like some clarification on this part...

"When your order has been accepted and ADSL24 receive a confirmed activation date you will receive an email containing all your login details and it will be just a case of changing the login and password in your modem/router on the day of activation (can occur at any time during the day) and away you go!"

At the moment, when i turn on my computer im automatically connected to the internet, no logon. Im assuming therefore, id have to change something in my 192.168.0.1 configuration window correct? Using the details supplied by ADSL24?

Oh and another question (they just keep on coming!)
It says somewhere that i only get 1 static IP address.

How would this work, as i thought that by rebooting the router you automatically got a new IP?

Also, does this mean each of the other 2 computers on the network will get a static IP?

Thanks again guys (and girls)

Yep, all you need to do is login to your router page at http://192.168.0.1 and change the username and password in the Basic settings screen. Apply that and you're all set.

1 static IP is fine and simply means you have the same IP all the time so no messing about :)

The other PC's will still have the same IP as the IP they are allocated is off your router and is a local one. 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3 etc
