Hi
I am due to be transferred/connected to ADSL24 on the 12th, but I am worried because the router that I am using at present is an unbranded router and I am not able to get into the control panel of the box.
I have tried doing searches for the make etc, but without success IE there is no make/model number on router, so I am worried that I will be unable to log on to the new broadband service
I have ordered a new Netgear Ng834uk router, but this is not due until the 16th
My obvious question is. Will I still be able to log on tomorrow?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Simon

You say you can't get into the control panel (web GUI) of the router, but what have you actually tried?
Try entering these IP addresses in the address bar of your preferred browser:
127.0.0.1
192.168.1.0
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.2
One of those should be the config page for the router (probably 192.168.1.1). The password should be something like Admin/Admin, admin/admin, Admin/(blank) - just play around :)
to work out your router ip - if you are already connected wireless or wired to the router and it is issuing you ipaddresses just click start then run and type cmd
At the command line type ipconfig
The default gateway most likely will be your router unless you are doing something special or corporate stuff.
usually it is 192.168.1.1 or maybe 192.168.2.1 but check yours and see.
then launch a web browser and type the ip address into it.
If you manage to get that far the next issue could be the username / pwd to login to the router. By default these could be admin and admin or admin and blank or various other passwords.
hope this helps.
Cecil.

Hi
What will actually happen when one of them is correct?
What should I be looking for
Thanks
Simon
you'll hit a main admin screen - mine has 2 boxes one for username one for a password and a "connect" button with an "advanced settings" link under it
heres a list of default passwords
http://www.phenoelit.de/dpl/dpl.html
if its connexant firmware (its a good bet for a lot of unbranded routers) try admin and epicrouter as the password

Hi
I managed to get the main admin screen up and enter admin, also tried steves sugg and also 0000 and got message below
Hasbani Web Server Error Report:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Server Error: 401 Unauthorized
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Access denied
try this
User name = admin
password = epicrouter
as looking at your error it's a Hasbani / Conexant router.

Hi
There may be an additional problem
I have just remembered the person who installed the router may have entered username and a pwd, but I do not have this and he is not around anymore
Not sure if can be got around somehow
Thanks for all your suggestions so far
Simon
The only way round it then would be to reset the router using a pin on the reset hole either on the back or underneath (as I don't know what this router looks like I can only guess) - but doing this will wipe out all your connection details so only do this if you are certain you cannot connect.
Some routers require you to hold the reset in for 5 seconds whilst removing and reattaching the power - lots of hands required.
last i can find for conexant are
User ID admin
Password conexant
User ID admin
Password password
User ID admin
Password amigosw1
User ID admin
Password 1234
If theres a sticker on the underside of your router you may have an fcc number - try that in google or here http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/ and it will tell you the manufacturer of the device.
I know this because I always lose manuals and drivers cd's for things

Hi cecil
I can only do this though if I can get into the admin control afterwards and as I do not know make/model, then I will not be able to proceed - well I think so?
Thanks
Simon
yes no point risking it if you're working fine at the moment but when you change or need to change the username / pwd then you cannot use the router without getting into it anyway so you might as well try it then. Best case you can get in and update it. worst case it wont work.

Hi
there is no serial number or only part of one, which I entered and it revealed a Russian dating site .lol
Simon
Yes dont think that will help - lol
Anyway I think you should leave your old details connected until either you've got your activation confirmation as on another thread Paul states this can take up till 8pm the same day
or you should wait until your current adsl connection stops working.
Then you will be forced to try the reset and usernames / passwords - just make sure you have them printed out or written down beforehand because when it doesnt work remember that you wont be able to look at the web for help.

What username and password are you referring too?
Thanks
Simon
Your new username/password for your ADSL24 connection. (The one ending in @adsllogin.co.uk etc)

Hi James
I had a feeling that was the answer that was coming, but had to ask!!
So, after pushing the reset button the admin dialog box will reappear for me to enter the username and password for the adsl24 login
Is that corect?
Thanks
Simon
No you will have to sign into the router with the admin username and password first. Some routers just pushing the reset in and out will do it and others it will have to be held in for about 5 secs and then pull the power out of the router and re-attach it.
Resetting the router will put everything in the router back to factory defaults.
Once you have signed into the router with the admin username and password you can then setup the adsl username and password in the router.

The username and password I am referring to is the one needed to initially sign into the router admin page (you said someone else changed this, but when you reset your router it should go back to the defaults, so try some of the ones listed earlier).
Once you can sign into the router you can then add the adsl24 username and password into the router connection page for the adsl setup

Hi Cecil

I am a little more confused now, as I do not lnow the username and pwd for the router, even at the rest factory setting
If this is the case, then how can I proceed to the adsl24 login username and pwd entry?
Thanks
Simon
Simon
After resetting you will just have to try the usernames and passwords that we listed earlier.
e.g. the one I listed was
User name = admin
password = epicrouter
steve j listed some other ones to try.
If these dont work then you cant do anything until you can get into the admin page of the router.
If one of them works then you can enter the adsl24 username and password and save the settings and then your adsl will connect.
As you do not know your current router admin username or password the only thing you can do is to reset the router when your current adsl stops working and try to get into the admin page.
does that clear it up a bit?
thanks
Cecil.
let me go through all the steps just so you are clear:
1) Reset your router by pushing and holding in the reset button and removing and reattaching the power to the router, then release the reset button. (you might need a pin to reset it)
2) launch a web browser and enter the router ip address e.g. 192.168.1.1 - not 100% sure what yours is but you should know.
3) on that page you will have to enter an admin username and password. This is the admin username and password to get into the router to make changes to the router. this could be:-
User name = admin
password = epicrouter
maybe username = admin
pwd = blank - no characters
or if these dont work try the ones stevej listed.
4) If you get into the router you will be able to setup the adsl settings. In your router settings somewhere your will be able to enter the username and password for the adsl24 connection. This is the adsl24 username and password (The one ending in @adsllogin.co.uk and whatever your adsl24 password is).
5) once all that has been done there should be a connect or save settings and once that has been clicked assuming everything has been entered correctly your router should connect your adsl and that should be it.
Let me know if you need further clarification.

Cecil.

Hi cecil
Thanks for that detailed reply
I have tried many of the username and pwd suggested without success
The ip address after doing cmd thingy was 10.0.0.2, which seemed a lot different to the ones listed
I think that I am going to have to wait until the 16th, when the new Netgear router arrives, before I can get online again - 3-4 days with out broadband. How will I survive lol
Thanks for all your help and support
Will keep trying, but not holding out for success with this router at present, just wish that the guy who installed it in the first place had not been so secretive!!
Thanks
Simon
Simon
I guess there is no easy way to actually confirm that the reset actually worked. Anyway hope you eventually get into it - otherwise yes you will have to wait for the new router you've ordered to arrive.

Cecil.

Hi Guys
Thanks for all your comments and great advice, I appreciated the support.
I will now wait for the connection with plusnet to cease and then try the reset option on the router and see what happens, which I expect to happen today/tomorrow sometime
I will probably have withdrawal symptoms from not having a broadband connection, but never mind
Thanks again and I will let you know what happens
